I just checked the oil level on my old truck and was surprised to see the color of the oil

I changed the oil 1000km (621 miles) ago to Pennzoil Ultra Plantinum Synthetic 5W-30 for it's cleaning properties

When I did the oil change it was hard to see the oil level, the oil was clear like water

    What caused the oil discoloration?

Should the oil change color so soon?

Is the oil really cleaning the engine inside?

I use the same stuff in mine, have for 20,000 or so and it's the same color as yours. Never gets any darker. It probably is loosening up some stuff from inside. If it gets black and sludgy I would be worried, but I don't think you have any issue there.
Moisture in the crankcase that never has a chance to evaporate because the engine never gets hot enough is the #1 cause of sludge

I run Amsoil Signature 10-30 myself but that Pennzoil you're running is "real" good stuff. It's loaded with detergents. Don't worry about the color of the oil a bit. Just change it a little more frequently for a while. Like maybe 3000 miles instead of 5000 miles. It'll clear up. The Pennzoil is just cleaning as it should. When I started using the Amsoil Signature my oil has turned red after a while. It's not a problem. When an oil tuns red it's just cleaning out the varnish that has built up. Varnish really doesn't hurt anything either so I don't worry about it. It's still red, but to a lesser extent after over 15,000 miles with the Amsoil and two changes. I just changed it again about 2000 miles ago.

I use Pennzoil platinum in my 2.7 2nd gen. Looks about the same with 4-5000 miles on it. It never really looks burnt on the dipstick.

I just sent off my second sample to them. I think it got lost somewhere since I haven't heard a word from them via email and it's been well over a week. I guess I'm going to have to start calling around and see what happened. I sent my 1st one in with 7500 miles on the oil. They said it looked so good i should try 9500 miles. I went 8400.
