The leak the OP had was at the back under the intake, the thread also shifted to a possible future leak caused by that bracket contacting that hose up front.

The reality is, they will charge what the market can bear. If people wouldn't spend more than $20k on a Tacoma, they'd be $19,999.

The prevalence of cheap financing and excellent marketing combine with the consumerist culture of most Western cultures just drives these prices up.

All these manufacturers do financing which almost incentivises them to drive the prices up as much as they can so people need financing. Oh not enough cash flow? Let's extend the term to 8 years. They'll end up making double the price of these exhorbitant truck by the time it's all said and done.

I remember when 4 years was the maximum you could finance a new auto purchase. 8 years of usury on a rapidly depreciating asset is beyond stupidity.

The herd has been conditioned to only worry about the monthly payment.6,7 and 8 year financing has allowed auto makers to grossly overprice new vehicles while maintaining the low monthly payment.

while maintaining the low monthly payment. And they make a shit ton of interest income on the longer loans. The dumbing of America, just sell them the monthly payment...

Thanks shakerhood, I went out to look at mine and didn't see any coolant components that may require that many labor hr. But the intake manifold leak definitely would be a bad scene.

The front bracket is a bit too close for my comfort too, mine should be ok for now, but I'll keep an eye on them as well as the oil cooling lines underneath the skid plate.

    Thanks for the spot light
    Cheers!

If you go with the 4R--be aware that they have front and rear diff problems. Both mine failed at about 20 K. It was a 6 week wait for the front diff as I was # 80 on the back order list.

It is sort of obscene, sadly that is the nature of society -- rich get richer, multinationals post record profits, middle class shrinks, poor get poorer.

I tend to think that prices of vehicles are high because of all the litigation and laws in this county, both by individuals as well as the government.

Lawsuits drain any reasonable profits, and federal regulations forces more EPA and safety standards on vehicles, further raising the costs. Someone's going have to pay for all that, and it isn't going to be the companies and shareholders, who pass the costs to the purchasers.

Who do you think is really paying for all those frame replacements? Enjoy your new higher-priced Tacoma!

Just a general comment on society......certainly not unique to Toyota. Show me a car manufacturer that puts out a quality product and pays it's assembly line workers a living wage - all manufacturers are guilty of this.

Vehicle prices are higher because you can now loan a vehicle for eight years ...

    Think about it.

I have read another report that 10 % of car owners today are opting to sell the car they have and not replace it .

Things will suck for those of us that want and like to drive. If fewer people buy cars the price will go up now down . I thing the best thing to have is a fully restored non computer controlled truck tucked away in the barn .

Bad plastic "welds" from the supplier. I had the same issue at my 20k service.

Just dropped off my 2017 with 5K miles at the dealer today. It looks like I'm experiencing the same problem as you ( rear bypass tube). Parts are a couple of days out but the dealer has been great setting me up in a Tundra til it's all fixed up. Will keep you posted
