    Does anyone have any information on the new engine size for the third gen tacos as far as power and fuel mileage? is it noticeable differences?

    Information on that is everywhere.

    3.6L V6 down from the 4.0L V6
    Mpg increase is 1-2 depending on model.

    Differences are major in terms of how it drives. I personally hate the 3rd Gen. drives horrible. Has high RPMS which feels like its constantly gear searching. Annoying. Plus the truck is ugly.

    I didn't think the 3.5 would be that much of a difference, but from the sounds of it, the 2nd gen is the superior model

    I know it has direct injection which is enough to make me dislike it. I'm not a fan of having to deal with those clattering high pressure fuel pumps, most DI engines I have seen have issues with fuel dilution as well.

    The 3.5 actually uses a combo of port injection and direct injection to keep the valves clean, but the issues I mentioned above likely still exist.

    Nope. From a 2007 to the 2017. And I WISH I had the 4.0. I really notice it when I was riding with @armyofsquirrels 6 speed 2nd gen. Then I go to my 3rd gen. The time it takes for it to get to speed.

    Youtube the Fastlane-Truck for the review/head to head drag race of the Tacoma 1st Gen vs 2nd Gen vs 3rd Gen. All three trucks were dragged raced and compared, at high altitude. 1st Gen won the drag race by a few hairs because he was using a manual, and that truck is a true compact truck. The 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen were nearly comparable to one another and were a tie for the most part. So on paper, the 3.5 L reads like it might be better performing than 4.0L, but it in real world its the same.

    I'm with you, and I took a little while to figure out if I was just being a hater... I'm not. They're slugs and while I don't think they're butt ugly, I feel like 2nd gens hit that spot between the boxy old era of vehicle, and the completely overdone "futuristic styling" of some newer cars.

    I sold my 2017 to get my 2014. The shifting issues and the power really did it for me.
    The 2nd Gen may have less HP, but the powerband is much better. Plus we have the supercharger option =)

    Compared to what? Granted the 4.0 is not a sports car, it gets out of its own way decently and can surprise some cars off a stoplight.

    Now, try merging on the freeway in a 3.8 JKU Wrangler. That's scary.

    Just about every vehicle I've ever driven except for some vehicles I use at work, a Fiat Duna 60 and an old Lancia Beta I used to own. Coming from a full size truck with either an 8 or big 6 cylinders to the Tacoma with a 4.0 took a lot of getting used to.
