I've dug around and I haven't been able to find anything addressing this. Both speakers on my driver door are out. I've got a 4 door 2015 TRD off road. I noticed a very faint rattling sound at highway speeds, sounded like it may have been coming from the door... I was thinking possibly its a loose wire in the door but maybe its just in my head.

Does anyone know if this is a common issue, if it is a cable issue or a fuse maybe? Any help or direction to a thread about this would be a big help, I really want my full sound back. thanks!

Not common by any means. The factory speakers are cheap and easy to blow if you are in the habit of blowing out your ear drums. Pull the panel and check the speakers.

Yeah just open the door up. It's pretty easy.

Just watch this video, take a cold shower, then remove the door panel. Remember to refer back to video numerous times.

Thank you for showing me the video! After my ice bath I finally got around to taking the door panel off. Everything was plugged in properly, and looked fine. I turned some music on and heard a very faint buzz from the small tweeter speaker, the big lower speaker was dead silent. :notsure:

Have you checked the balance setting in your head unit?

I have, it is set to dead center. if I move it to the front driver side the sound disappears as the balance adjusts and sends more sound to the front driver side and away from the other speakers. It also seems unusual that two speakers in the driver door would be blown. I'm worried this could be a wiring issue somewhere between the door and the fuse box but who knows?

Watch the video again and remove the right door panel. Then swap sides and see what happens.

Swap the speakers between the driver and passenger doors to see if it remains with the door or moves with the speakers.

If you can get your paws on a digital meter (DVOM), measure the resistance of the speaker coil. The speaker is probably labeled what the resistance should be, but I'd expect 4 ohm, or possibly 8 ohm resistance.

Alright so i finally got around to taking both door panels off and switching the driver side and passenger side speakers. I learned two things...

The driver side main speaker(lower) is definitely blown, there were parts inside rattling around when i took it off.

Then i swapped the lower passenger speaker with the driver speaker expecting music to come out from the driver side after. but....

    no music

Instead the speaker made a faint buzzing sound, similar to when you turn the volume up on a guitar amp.

So i have two problems, one blown speaker which is easily remedied, and some kind of electronic issue. The speakers in the driver door are getting electricity(or I assume based on the buzzing sound I'm getting) but no music. Not sure what to do here.

Maybe its an issue with my stereo? Maybe its an issue with a shorted wire somewhere? Can anyone shed light on this?

Nothing major planned, this is my daily driver. - replaced stock tires with Cooper AT3s - added Husky WeatherBeater floor mats - installed Access Original bed cover - installed Gentex 453 mirror and the included external temp sensor, also has Homelink and auto-dim - installed ImMrYo mirror bracket - hose clamp mod and washer mod to secure tailgate, with a GateKeeper lock installed over the hose clamp - replaced stock reverse lights with Philips Halogen 30w from Home Depot GY6.35 base
Maybe something is bad in the wiring of the tweeter (upper speaker) in your driver door. The wiring from the stereo to the door speakers goes to the tweeter first. There is a about 6-8" of wire between the tweeter wiring connector (plug from the stereo) and the actual tweeter. It is sheathed in loose shrink-wrap tubing. Inside that sheathing, it splits into two wires, one going to the tweeter and one going back down to the plug and continuing to the 6x9 lower speaker. That's why there are 4 wires in that tweeter plug, 2 pairs of "plus" and "minus" speaker wires - one pair from the radio to that plug, and one pair going from the split down to the 6x9 lower speaker.

Since the split happens before the wire reaches the tweeter speaker itself, a problem right at the tweeter should not harm the signal to the 6x9, but perhaps the plug is loose.

I just replaced my speakers with aftermarket last week, so all this layout is fresh in my memory.

    good luck,
    Dave

Thank you! I'm going to pop the door panel off and take a look. I'm hoping its just a loose plug. if not, I'll get wild with a soldering iron if need be.
