It's the same to the muffler. Y pipe to catalytic converter to the exhaust. Simply different ends, either down pipe or side pipe.

Back to and including the muffler does it all tuck up past the frame rails?

They are the same. Check pics on the sites that sell both.

Awesome, thanks for the input, looks like it is all shielded by the ground, looks like this will be getting ordered next week... Anyone needing a factory exhaust in Texas :D:D

Ordered the mbrp turn down kit and the 26" mbrp resonator to go with. I'll report back when I get it on. Got it all for $299 on JC Whitney. The 409 stainlessparts that is.

Does anyone know the best way to capture audio of the exhaust so I can share it??

I'm curious to hear the before and after with the resonator.
I've seen a video where a guy put his phone on the ground about 100 yards in front of the truck and recorded the drive by. That worked really well.
So long as the recording device is stationary and no wind interference.

got the new turn down cat back with resonator installed. I didn't want to dick around and try it without the resonator and then break it apart again to add it in, but as loud as it still is i cant imagine what it would have been like without the extra muffler. Plenty of highway drone. it sounds more like a real bad exhaust leak i think is the best way to describe it. i love the quality and the style i just wish it was quieter. when i tow the boat and the engine is working constantly it really gets annoying. it is not dependent on RPM but just on how hard the motor is working at that point so it can be super quiet but when you put a load on the engine it gets into its "drone zone" hoping this thing will quiet down after a few thousand miles but we'll see. i cant get the offending noise to capture well on video i think you need a real microphone for the deeper tones.

Santos, I think you described it perfectly. I went without the resonator and I have to say, it is getting old fast. Pulling the boat is beyond annoying. There is also an incline on the highway that hit every morning that causes it to roar in not a v8 sounding way. I changed the muffler to a quieter MBRP and it's much better but still embarrassing at times. Sounds awesome at idle but when I accelerate, the pitch changes and its temperamental. Sounds like a leak but 2 people failed to find any. Probably will will sell both and go back to stock and maybe consider a cold air intake, although the forum had mixed reviews. I'm in MA if anyone is interested in the exhaust. M

So, I think I might take my truck to an exhaust shop to see if they can find something I did wrong. Although none of my friends can feel an air leak, it does not sound right within the first 20 min of driving. It sounds tinny, almost like a raddle. Once it’s hot, it sounds better but the drone is bad. It’s sounds so much better on my friends 2017 taco, which is a manual. Could that be why, manual for automatic? My hope is that the gasket is crushed. If not, I may revert back to stock. It’s a tough call, I like it sometimes and I’d hate to loss 400+ dollars, assuming it would be difficult to sell. This isn’t really wasn’t intended to be a venting post, I am interested to know if anyone experiences very different sounding exhaust in the first 10 - 20 min vs when really hot.

    Thanks!!!

yea its been annoying. not so bad when its just me but when i have others in the car it seems even worse! and definitely towing the boat is the worst.

Just ordered a car chemistry exhaust insert to see if that will help, right now theres nothing really restricting any flow on the MBRP you can see straight through the middle of all the exhaust parts. im hoping the insert will break it up and actually change some of the flow.

I spoke to MBRP the other day regarding a resonator. They didn't seem to have one that would fit my truck since the straight part of the pipe was only 19" before reaching the hanger bracket. I want to put a resonator in badly!

Please let us know how it works out! I won't be sleeping until I know. I put my stock back in but MBRP is sending me a new muffler. Once that arrives, I'm putting it back in with a new gasket. I'd like to squeeze I. A resonator but since it looks like one won't fit, perhaps I will try this insert thing. Thanks

My MBRP is 3" diameter, this insert if for a 2.5", which is the size TRD uses. Your exhaust my sound different than mine, I assumed we had the same MBRP

The 2nd gens run 2.5” pipe from cat back. Currently running the off-road mbrp turn down exhaust with 22” mbrp resonator. Still too loud. I’ll let you know when I get this insert in there. Hopefully before turkey day I’ll find some time for it.

Also if your mbrp kit hangars were designed like mine I was able to cheat it back an inch so I think they have a 16” resonator that’s a 20” overall. Not sure if it’s in 3” pipe though

Thanks! Looking forward to the results. Hope to get mine back in before it gets too cold to lie on the ground.

Did you ever get a chance to install that I set? I got my new muffler and want to hold off from installing the exhaust until I figure out if I want to try the insert. Asked MPRB about it and they've never heard of them, I showed them your link. Interesting.

    Thanks
