Truck has to be parked on perfectly flat ground for the doors to stay open. I don't have a parts diagram so I don't know what sort of mechanism is used, but I'm guessing that a gas strut has gone bad.

    Anyone dealt with this?

There are no Gas Struts that hold the door open. As far as I know the only thing would be friction device in the door hinge. Hinges wear...

Just above the lower door hinge is a "strut" with a spring loaded detent assembly inside the door - I quickly looked for a part # with no luck. My rear door on the driver's side has had this same issue since I bought it 4 years ago, one day I might fix it.

Yeah! 68610 and 68620 for the front doors.

68630 and 68640 for the rears.

$80.00 Damn, they are proud of them fuckers!

MY DS door had similar issues, but would also make a "POP" when opened.

Took it apart and the bolts were all loose. Tightened up with Loctite and all good the past few years. Good luck - hopefully it's just loose hardware and if it's not I'm sure there are plenty of scrap hinges at junkyards.

The problem is that two sliders that have a speed bump profile to them, get worn smooth. You can fix this if you don't want to spend the 80-100 dollars on a whole new assembly from toyota.

cool find @yourrealdad . My fix I did restoring the OE parts has degraded after a few more years of use in the desert. I might just have to try these!

Yup, I bought these earlier this summer. They work great. Pull the door check, drill out the dimple, pop them apart and replace the two pieces. The only problem is shipping can take awhile from Russia.

Ordered them up. Should arrive here right about winter time. Should be fun to do in the cold.

Be carefull removing the old limiter. A nut is barely spot welded inside the pillar, can easily break loose from the weight of the door working on it all the time. If you unscrew the limiter bolt, the nut may fall inside the pillar, gone forever. A new one can be welded in, paint touched up, better than new, but a PIA. Check first, weld if loose.

What nut are you talking about? Aren't there just three on the outside? Two at the door end and one at the frame/body attachment end?

Correct.. the frame/body connection. Shake it, see if it's loose before you unscrew it completely. Yours may be different, but I doubt it, mine is an '06. The nut is inside that structural piece/pillar, factory spot welded in place. The limiter (check) is screwed into it from the outside, with a bolt through the hole. The nut is spot welded to the back side of the piller face. Inaccesible. Enough door swing pressure over time will break the spot weld and you may not know it. Unscrewing the limiter may drop the nut inside that pillar. A new washer type nut can be welded in, if you're carefull. Hold it in place with a magnet, tack it, screw a limiter bolt, or equiv. into it, pull it tight and tack the other side. Touch up the paint.

Ah, I see. Well I can't weld so that is a no go if it is loose.

    Tacoma double cab...

It is working well so far. Easy install, and holding back doors open just fine on small inclines. Much improved over my old stock ones, which couldn't stay open on flat ground.
