My '02 Tacoma is vibrating like crazy. I have all three U-Joints and a New Center Bearing. Does anyone know what size the nut is to remove the Center Bearing?

    Thanks!

Pretty sure it's bigger than that, and you have to remove the rear section of the driveshaft to find out.

    I used a 1 - 5/16... 96 4X4 automatic 3.4.

dont make the same mistake I did... mark the flanges on the trans output to the flange on the drive shaft and the drive shaft to the flange on the rear end. Mark the flange on the front shaft to the splines on that shaft too... in other words mark EVERTYTHING. When I put mine back together I had the back shaft u-joints out of phase with the from u joints and it vibrated pretty bad. Rotate the rear shaft 180 degrees and all is good.

The reason I asked... I'm right in the Middle of Moving. My tools are at one house and because of the mess, I need to pull the drive shaft in the other garage so I trying to take with me just what I need. I do not want to take a full 3/4" drive set just for one socket.

"frizzman", as "nzbrock" said You Can't See The Nut Since It's Behind the front section of DS. I've been under it, yes I can see the mounting bolts. ;) I've read for hours here on replacing the Center Bearing and have not seen anything on Nut Size.

Looking at mine, I'm sure it's never been out (215,000 miles). I bought this truck last month and it was vibrating then. I think it's why they sold it. Yes Sir, I'm going to mark the Bitoch!

    Thanks!

Have you looked in the how to thread on replacing the carrier bearing at the top of this forum? It lists all the tools you need.

    Looks like 24mm

Thank You "nzbrock"! I'd read through most of the entire thread but did not read the 1st post. My Mistake.

I yanked the shaft (out) yesterday and my front U-joint was Gone. My Tacoma was vibrating when I bought it and the seller said he'd changed the rear-end gear lube. (I think he suspected the differential was going out.) My thoughts was "No Big Deal, Buy It". I replaced the U-joints and Center Bearing. Taking it for a test drive, it dives like a different truck.

    Thanks for your help!

In my '02 2wd,X, I only used a 14mm socket and open-end wrench and the 24mm socket for the carrier bearing nut.
