I am looking to take off the Tacoma and V6 emblems to paint them back.

What should I use to re attach them back to the truck?

They don't need to be in the exact shape. Just enough coverage. The 3m tape is plenty strong.

Actually you can reuse the original tape, if you do the process correctly. This is what I did. Use a heat gun (low setting) or a blow dryer (high setting) works too. Use blue masking tape and tape a rectangle box around the emblem, leaving about 1/8" around the emblem, this will be for realignment purposes. Using your heat method of choice, go back and fourth along the emblem, moving at a slow pace of 1in/sec or so for about 90-120 sec. Do not keep the heat directly in one spot for a long time. Move the heat around the edges to get the 3M tape under the emblem. Use fishing string (10lb or greater) and slide it under the emblem, moving back and fourth like a saw motion. Be sure to keep the string between the plastic emblem and the adhesive, NOT between the adhesive and metal body. The emblem should peel right off from the heat and the perfect adhesive will remain on the car. Now use a piece of vinyl sticker backing, or equivalent, and place it over the adhesive that remains on your car, to protect any dust from getting on it and making it not sticky anymore. Paint your emblem, let dry accordingly etc. Once its ready and dry, use the heat method over the vinyl backing that's over your adhesive on your car, heat that up so it gets nice and soft and pliable again. then peel the vinyl backing off of it and line up your Tacoma emblem or which ever it is with the blue masking tape, leaving an 1/8" around it, and firmly press it back onto the warm adhesive and hold it with weight for a minute, or until the adhesive starts to harden up again. Worked great for me and its been over a year. Way better than plasti dip
