Flex-a-lite makes a direct bolt on unit. It takes a hair of strain off of the engine, eliminates the noisy clutch fan, and clears up a little room. Would only use with a thermostat though.

I had the dual Flex a Lite electric fans on my '04 when I bought it (previous owner put them on), they were crap. Did not keep the engine cool when in 4lo and doing any sort of lengthy climb. The temp gauge would start climbing fast and I'd have to shut the truck off to let it go back down, and blast the heater to keep it from happening again when finishing the trail. Forget about using AC when in 4wd.

My only issues with it overheating occurred in 4wd but ever since going back to a stock fan clutch, I've had zero issues with overheating. I can even run the AC now while I'm in 4x4. Never could with the e-fans or the gauge would start to climb. Oh and I was forced to get rid of them because one day the wiring harness caught on fire when I was on my way to work, out of nowhere I was at a stop light and smoke from the wiring to the fans was coming out from under the hood, fortunately nothing else was damaged. Now, whether or not the previous owner botched the install is a potential factor, but I'm more than happy with the stock fan clutch setup now.
