I don't mind water crossings.. but the water crossing I did was full of sediment - if it was like a river or something flowing I wouldn't have had so much shit kicked up haha.

I sprayed lube on the pulleys and they still whine, now they've gotten worse so its time to replace them.

 

Sadly, that's not an issue confined to Boston.

 

question, what can we do to help those that feel they need to do this?

Getting in the truck this morning I had two thoughts:
1. Why do I live in New England when I hate the cold?
2. I should really fast track those heated seats and mirrors...

 

There not much you can do it’s so sad how many lives drugs can ruin...

 

I honestly don't think there is anything anyone can do.

You can try to help, maybe they'll be on the right path for a bit, but eventually something will trigger it and they're back at it. Sure, there are people that manage to get their act together and never go back, but I think those are phew and far in between.

 

There isn't really a good answer to that. If there was, I'm sure we'd be rid of the issue. People use for multiple reasons. Some get help and stay clean, some get clean and relapse (sometimes multiple times), and some overdose or pass away much younger than they should due to years of use. I wish I knew what the answer was but it's not very black and white.

 

unfortunately, I think you are correct for those already addicted, but how do we stop this cycle? Why do folks feel the need to use a substance? As a society/species, there must be something, or do we just chalk it up to population control?

 

That's a pretty damn good question right there. Curiosity maybe? Easy access to the stuff? Influence? Peer pressure? It probably all ties together, and it's probably all of the above, and then some... sadly.

 

for some, but the heavy users tend to come from shitty homes, not all but good portion. This year I am working with high schoolers who are at risk, about half have already completed Rehab, some addicted to pills already at 16.

 

FAK. That sucks to say the least. That's the shit that scares me as a "new" parent. I know what I did when I was young, and I'm afraid mine will do the same, even if I talk to them about it. Curiosity, peer pressure, all that. I only did pot, nothing more than that. I knew better.

 

Don't think employer would like that too much

 

It’s not all shitty homes it’s more in the makeup of the person. I have close family recovering and growing up they always felt like they needed to be the life of the party. I had a few friends with similar attitudes and they unfortunately are going down the same path and this is in white picket fence suburbia

The thought of my eventual kids getting into hard drugs scares me too. My family has a history of addiction to alcohol, so I know just trying some of these once could be enough to ruin my life. Growing up my parents were pretty honest with me. They always told me that doing drugs would close doors to jobs, schools, etc. And that with our genetics even trying thence could be too many times. They never tried to scare me away from them of hide drug use from me, just told me honestly what the outcome could be.

And I've never done any drugs as a result! I do drink, but only socially. And I haven't smoked a cigarette in like 18 months!

 

Coming from a younger person, I've found that knowing the details, and finer details about drugs and alcohol help to make better decisions. Like I smoked some pot back in high school, but to me it wasn't that bad. Now if i was offered anything heavier than that, i knew it wouldn't be a good outcome. Tobacco for me started out at trying to fit in with the older guys on my hockey team, but it could also be a lot worse to be addicted to other things. Alcohol i was brought up that it is not the worst thing out there, but to not drive after drinking and that you really need to know your limits with the stuff and to not exceed them
