Can't believe it's been almost two years since this happened...

I hope the prick who hit my truck has given up booze, but based on his track record I highly doubt it...

I got hit by a drunk driver over a decade ago. Totaled my truck (S10), which was "inherited" from my grandfather after he passed. I was at a red light and he slammed into me doing at least 40. Total loss. Also the back of my head took out the rear window (reg cab).
I try to look on the bright side. Ol' Red gave herself to protect not only a young Airman, but also any other innocent drivers who would've been in this guy's path. I was ok with the minor injuries, I was enlisted and had free healthcare (although I couldn't fly for a few weeks).

USAA is a great insurance company to have. They'll treat you right.

I'm glad your situation wasn't worse. That guy got off seriously light considering not only this wasn't his first time, but that he fucking murdered somebody before.

    Fuck drunk drivers.

My dad was in the Navy for 25 years (1982-2007), so that's how I got USAA. Thanks for your service!

So, I've gotten Corollas as free loaners the last few times I've had my truck at the dealership (2 of the 3 times were for recall stuff). My local dealer, Thompson Toyota in Doylestown, includes a free loaner (either a Camry or a Corolla, depending on what's available) for 24 hours, even with routine stuff like oil changes. Insurance is $15 extra, which of course I always get...

The last couple of times, I've gotten Corolla LEs, which is like one notch above the cheapest model. I loved both of them. In addition to that famous Toyota reliability, you also get power everything, A/C, variable intermittent wipers (finally!), a backup camera, and one hell of a sound system...

I went to high school with one of the service desk people, this cute girl named Ashley, and she checked me in this morning. I wanted a Camry, since it's bigger, but they only had Corollas. Ashley asked "Charlie, do you want black or dark gray?" I thought for a moment and decided on black since I'd had a gray Camry, a brown Corolla, and a gray Corolla (in that order) in the past. I'm glad I did! The gray one I could have chosen was an LE with the standard wheel covers and no sunroof. The "black one" I chose turned out to be a well-equipped SE with sunroof, alloy wheels, and paddle shifters! It's a 2017 and it has like 3,800 miles on it.

Gonna have some fun with those paddle shifters on the 611 bypass later today...

If anything, this would be a great car to buy used and use to drive Uber!

Forgot to mention this is a free loaner while my truck is getting it's frame inspected as per the reinstated recall...

This is sort of relates, and besides, I'm the OP...

Walking my boss's dog around town and I found this for sale...

I prefer pre-1995 Benzes (with the exception of the 1990-2002 SL roadster), but in my opinion you can't go wrong with an E-class...

Sucks it's black with a black interior, but still...

And you can still get it in an honest manual 6-speed transmission too.

Not for 2018, not even the base model... I checked last night on Toyota's website...

You sure about the '18s? Just saw a couple of '17 XSE 6-speeds at my local dealer.

Looks like it's only in the SE for '18.

I'll check the website, but usually if the base model doesn't come with a third pedal it's a bad sign...

Also, my local dealer (Thompson Toyota in Doylestown) used to rent stick shift cars (I'm guessing Corollas), but they haven't done so in well over a decade...

    Why?

Because people would rent them for the sole purpose of teaching their inexperienced teenagers how to drive stick, or the renters themselves weren't very good at driving stick, and these brand new cars would come back with the clutches absolutely destroyed!

My family has been doing business with Thompson since about 2006, and I'm pretty sure I've never seen a manual transmission car available to rent...

Also, Thompson actually takes pretty good care of its rentals. I honestly think they pick random Camrys and Corollas from their inventory and put them in the rental fleet. The car remains in the rental fleet for a few months to a year and then is sold as certified pre-owned. I've seen "technically new" loaded Corolla LEs on Thompson's lot for like $13,000. I also think there's an option to buy the car you rented if you really like it...

So it looks like my Tacoma DOES NOT need a new frame. Even better, my Taco passed the safety inspection with flying colors! Even with it's worn out and borderline dryrotted Toyo tires that are getting replaced with new Michelins this week, my truck passed the state safety inspection!

My truck will be treated to a full-frame rustproofing/undercoat, free of charge. I was told by the guy who did the frame inspection that my frame was one of the most solid frames he'd ever seen.

    So...

I get my truck back sometime tomorrow, and I get to keep the black 2017 Corolla SE loaner for free for an extra day!

My gearshift knob from Ellis Precision should arrive tomorrow too!

Are you going to have to remove the lift and all the other chassis mods? All that would have had to be done to my truck was disconnecting the aftermarket backup camera...

My friend Justin just got the frame replaced on his white 2007 access cab 2WD SR5 (non-prerunner/2.7L auto) with 130K miles...

By the way, people love the grille...

It really completes the look of the truck!

If I ever buy another Tacoma, you're gonna have a repeat customer!

The Sony turned out to be a lemon and even though my warranty/replacement plan was up, Crutchfield swapped it for a Boss BV960NV head unit with navigation (See my signature).
