I know this has been discussed for the 3rd gens but most of what I am seeing (searches) is the push-to-start trucks. I have a 3rd gen Off-Road with a Manual trans, so a keyed ignition not the sensor fob proximity thing.
I am trying to find out if there is a setting where I can start the truck leaving the keys inside and lock the doors while I go inside to make my coffee. I looked in the setup items on the radio but didn't find one that fits. I hate to leave the truck running unlocked but I want to warm it up so the clutch isn't stiff and also so I can see out the window.
Any help is appreciated, yes I did searches on threads and all I could find was with the PTT starter and not the keyed ignition. Thanks

Just lock the driver door by hand and not with the buttons. This is what I do on my second and it works, not sure if it’s different for the third gen

And you use the second key set to manually unlock it?

I would use the second key to lock it, thus ensuring I have the 2nd key.

I'm considering getting a car starter installed thus eliminating the need to do this. Has anyone installed a brand they recommend?

You can do a remote start on a manual trans now a days. There are solutions from just about every manufacturer. I recommend anything made by http://directed.com I will be installing the new DS4 system when I get a chance

My experience last year was the truck warmed up way faster when driven. If I let it run in the driveway, seemed it may have been warm 1/4 mile closer, than if I start it, count to 20, drive it gentle till that spot when the heat really kicks in. If your talking 10 plus minutes, I'm sure that's different, but that's not something I am willing to do.

These trucks actually cool off if it's been driving in the cold, then you let it idle. It's odd.

Went to home depot and had a key cut for $3.50. Think he used a Camry blank. No electronics so it only opens/locks my doors and tailgate. But won't start my truck. Works great.

Well the Stealership screwed up and actually gave me 3 keys when I purchased the vehicle, one came with the truck and they ordered the second (and than misplaced it) and then sent me a third and then sent the second when they found it. In any event I feel like a fool because manually locking the door works, I stood in front of it yesterday hitting the lock button, all the while staring at the key hole. Anyway, start with spare key and manually lock from outside...when ready you have to manually unlock to get in as the buttons don't work to unlock as a safety precaution (I'm sure) when the key is already in the ignition. Thanks @Paul123 !
