I saw mention of a TSB costing $200, that shouldnt be the case if its a TSB! If you bitch enough to somebody, like the service manager, things become free!

I was thinking about something similar but I didn't know if the rivets were aluminum. I am assuming they are.

I found a thread about the TSB for the 2nd gens and that's where I got the part number from. Now that I look at it though, it runs from 2005-2010. I wonder if my 2011 already has the updated part? That would make replacement irrelevant.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/steering-column-rattle-tsb.96634/

Where is the safety design in this? Are the rivers supposed to be the weak point in the instance of a collision? I was thinking about cutting out the rivets and replacing with fine thread bolts but that won't work if they are apart of the safety design.

Hey @anthony250f what kind of diet do you have your pup on? I've got ours on a raw food diet but he doesn't seem to be digging it much right now. I think he's still trying to adjust from not having littermates and such but he just won't eat.

Merrick is one of the best food that you can buy at the local pet stores. Wellness is also very good kibble. Just make sure you either feed all life stages or large breed puppy. We order all our food on chewy.com though. Way cheaper.

I would try some wood-bond glue and see if that works. Permatex "The right stuff" silicone sealant is also a very good product, it pretty much turns into rubber and sticks really well to the steel. However the wood glue may work better simply for the fact that its thinner and would work its way into the gap better.

Hi guys... well, I just limped back from Baja... a first fail for me in Baja with a Tacoma, but the truck didn't leave me there and I drove it home yesterday. Jason @speedfreek is got me in his busy schedule for an emergency fix (the Tacoma is my only vehicle and needed for my work).

I will do my typical trip report the next few days over on the Off Road/Trip Reports forum here on TW. It was a great trip from Tuesday to Saturday afternoon and I traveled from San Diego as far south as El Rosario (225 miles) and went from sea level to 9,280' at the observatories on the mountaintop where condors are flying freely.

I was in L4 (A-TRAC on) and climbing some technical trail that used to be a 4x4 road to Mike's Sky Rancho from El Coyote Meling... It was pretty beat up by last winter's rain and this year's Baja 500. My brakes locked and when I gave it some gas to move on, a loud clunking from the driver's side... I thought it was the front disc... maybe a rock got in there or the pad cracked in half?

I was able to turn around and limp back to El Coyote where friends on motorcycle tour were going to be, I knew, later. There is wifi there too, so I could text Jason for advice. Well, after I was back at El Coyote, I noticed a big puddle of brake fluid from my BACK brake drum and the inside of the tire was all wet.

Nearly all my brake fluid was gone... and there was none to be found at El Coyote (35 miles from the nearest town, on Hwy. 1). My friend Larry showed up with his motorcycle group (BajaTrailRides) and said to use some vice grips, lined with rubber, to pinch off the rubber brake fluid hose. Then I wrapped bailing wire and cinch ties to prevent the vice grips from popping open... I also made a chain with three cinch ties to keep from losing the vice grips if it did come off. The small amount of brake fluid remained and I was careful to use very little braking and mostly gearing to slow down and stop. I stopped a few times to check the fix and my fluid level. It never dropped any lower... and I bought more fluid at the gas station down on the highway.

After most stops, like city traffic in Ensenada and the border line wait, the brakes would grab and give me the clunk-clunk-clunk as I accelerated from a stop. That is the shoes in the drum loose, I imagine?

Anyway, here are a few photos of this Baja trip ending with my vice grip solution pics. ENJOY

Baja's mountains have the clearest air and one of the best locations of observatories, in the world. This is Mexico's largest telescope. Many more are up there at 9,200 feet.

I have 150 more photos from this trip and many will be in the future trip #7 report!

We are down a taco out here in San Diego. RIP my first truck.

In the mean time I am starting to look for a new 3rd gen and was wondering if anyone had any specific dealer recommendations around town. I like the cement grey but I don't think the TRD PRO is for me, also considering the quicksand but I haven't seen the color in person so TBD on that thought.

I know Toyota Escondido usually has a solid selection of Taco's. I have also seen that Kearny Mesa actually has a decent selection. Just wondering if anyone has had some good or bad experiences around SD. I bought my taco up in Orange County originally.

If you can wait, the 18's will offer cement on the standard trd from what I hear. As for Toyota dealers, Carlsbad and El Cajon have the largest selection.

Toyota of poway has a lifetime powertrain warranty on their new vehicles. As for price Id look at Costco, they team with certain dealers to get a really good price.

Toyota Carlsbad has been the source for my 3 Tacomas and wife's 2 Corollas. Ask for Duff Joy (he was in Fleet Sales). I have nothing bad to say about any other dealers, most sound great.

Showed up to buy an FR-S and they wanted to run a credit check before even test driving. I drove a Porsche there.

I walked into Toyota of Poway, wanted the blue one on the show room floor, and they drove it out of the show room and I test drove it without any issues.

I also bought mine is Escondido and go to El Cajon for service. I have always been happy with the El Cajon service facility.

When I was shopping for my truck, Costco sent me to Kearny Mesa Toyota. They didn't want to work with me on a special order and kept trying to sell me on a Tacoma they had on their lot. I finally walked out. El Cajon Toyota was unwilling to negotiate a reasonable price. I ended up ordering my truck from Escondido, and was very happy with the entire process. I dealt with their Fleet and Internet Sales Division, Paul Deshazo. The 2018 Tacoma will be coming out soon. This is the perfect time to negotiate a good deal on a 2017!
