Thanks guys for all the good inputs/advices. Yes, I will definitely look at a 2018 Tacoma at the earliest opportunity.

The good news was the Customer Relations Manager at my local dealer called me early this afternoon and let me know that my Tacoma was ready to pickup. I can't speak for all, but a call to Toyota Customer Experience 888-270-9371 did indeed expedite the repair work in my case. The repair work took 46 hours from the drop-off time to pick-up time.

I have attached pictures of the repair invoice and the rear differential before and after the repair. I wish everything goes well for those of you who will be bringing your Tacoma in for this recall.

You have eagle eyes, brother. That was a water spot - I was washing the rear wheels and rear differential before taking the pictures.

I just did the rear diff breather mod and observed weeping. Truck is 17 OR and has 5k miles on it. Taking to dealer on Monday and will ask for new gasket/fluid replacement instead of just the tightening which has been done on some. Crossing fingers.

I assume the same differential manufactured by the same company in Thailand will be installed on the 2018's .

Thanks again to whoever posted Jim Lentz's email! As some of you know, Toyota said they would give me $750.00 refund on the perches of parts. A few weeks ago, I took a chance and bought a little over $800.00 in parts, then sent a copy of my receipt to Jermaine Boyd my case worker. Several days went by and no reply, so I phoned him several times, again no reply! So the other day I emailed Jim Lentz, and sent him my receipt and a copy of the email from Boyd. Today I got a call from my new and improved case worker, who said she would expedite my refund and call me back next Wednesday after she returns to work. Not holding my breath, but cautiously optimistic.

I have not followed this thread for awhile, but I read something this week, and thought it might be related. If it has already been posted, apologies, but fwiw, it was interesting to me.

Bed extender, bed step, exhaust tip, bed divider and door sill protectors. Unfortunately for the latter, they gave me the four door version, I have an extended cab!

Wouldn't a Lube Locker gasket solve the seeping fluid?

So I just called my dealer, and the SA told me that there was no evidence of a leak... I will update with a pic of what it looks like when I get it back.

Not yet, but they left so much fluid smeared around the diff housing and axle it'd be hard to tell. I might Berryman that whole area to see whats happening. Only have ~250 miles since repair though.

I also recently had the recall done on my truck. I have checked the differential housing twice since the repairs were made and I do not see any leaking. Only been about 500 miles though.

I will say this; many people on this forum have complained that this recall process has been a pain in the ass, but just to offer some encouragement to everyone else, my recall process went incredibly smoothly. I took my truck in, they verified the housing was leaking, they had the parts in stock so they went ahead and did the repairs and had them completed within 1.5 hours. I was impressed to say the least especially after reading this thread lol.
