They have been begging for a Mt to test their tunes on for months! Mine goes down to their shop for them to make a MT specific tune tomorrow through Thursday. Can't wait to drive the thing home :)

Woops, I'm now realizing I worded my response poorly. I meant that gas mileage sucks dingle berries whether your feather the throttle or go heavy on it in stock tune if i'm correctly led to believe that the purpose of the atkinson cycle is to improve said mileage over the previous 4.0, but I think it has everything to do with emissions and very little to do with improved mileage.

What kind of mileage are you expecting? I'm not trying to be a dick, just curious. I came from a full size truck, so I'm really happy with the mileage I'm getting with the Tacoma. I was getting 14-15 in my last truck (Silverado 1500). My average since I've owned the Tacoma is 18.8. I'm running 265/70 17's with 1 1/2" lift and no armor (yet). My miles are about 60% highway, 40% city. This is my first Tacoma, so I can't compare to previous gens.

I expected at least the advertised MPG of 17. Every car i've ever owned exceeded the EPA ratings by 1 - 2 MPG combined. My truck is stock except for the added 160lbs for the sliders.

I'm average 15.8 with 80% city and 20% highway.. my driving hasn't changed in years with the various cars i've driven. This is my first time experiencing less than advertised. The computer always reads .5 MPG less when I calculate at each fill up.

I'm not mad about it, it's expected I guess given that it's a truck.. hell, i'll take 15.8 all day long if the factory tune didn't suck so much.

Damn. That does sound pretty low. The worst tank I've had was 17.

With 37,000 + on my Taco - I can add a lot to this - 1) Watch the little blue-bar -Tank Mileage (or put the big-screen on ECO and watch the right side yellow one)- Drive with it - let it train you and your mileage will certainly increase. 2) Rapid Starts are a killer. 3) Remember Speed is your enemy. I see references to 'Highway' That can mean anything from 50 to 75mpg and yes your mileage will vary. If I do a steady 60 - I get 23mpg...Steady 70 and it's down to 20 etc. 4) Terrain makes a huge difference. If you only drive on flat land - You will have much better mileage than I do going up and down hills (Seattle area). In short, you can't really compare with someone else for a wide number of reasons - Very poor science. Clay

Makes sense. I am driving fairly flat and getting 17.8 currently with 80/20 ish hwy/st
I do like driving with the mpg bars active. Anyone know of an odb2 app that has customizable interface with efficiency info?

Why is it that dealers seem to have only automatics in stock. Searched the entire state of GA to find a TRD Sport manual 4wd 3.5L. Finally found one with just the towing package, which I wanted. Dealer had (115) Tacomas in stock with (1) Manual Tranny. Hope they are not discontinuing these!

Folks just don't buy them, but will then rant about the slushbox shifting and the lack of towing power.

I was lucky that there were three locally. All were optioned how I wanted it.

One dealer said that the factories make some options like MT and trims like Limiteds in batches. So, they will get a few allocated at a time?

most out here believe it's 5% or less in the states are MT. sounds about right. if you want one you generally put in an allocation request for a dealer to track one down in your region. otherwise it will be hard to find one starting from scratch typically.

It took me 8 months to find my DCSB 2nd gen 6spd 4x4. You think finding new is difficult.. the used ones are even harder to come by nowadays!

This is a situation where there are going to be fewer and fewer MT's - I have been trying to sell my 2010 Camry (to make room for my 2018 4R that will be here by the end of the month) I constantly finding potential buyers for the car that, at the last moment, say no...confessing that they don't know how to drive one. These people look at a 3-peddle vehicle as confusing and, in some cases, old fashioned. Vehicle dealers are not going to 'stock' something that has fewer potential buyers. Buyers are accustomed to going out and selecting a vehicle and driving it home that day...many end up with AT's because they can't find an MT on a lot. I knew this going in and ordered what I wanted and waited for it. Was talking with a friend yesterday that works for a construction company...Many of their new hires don't know how to drive an MT putting them in a bind.

Funny. I'm in LA and when I was looking for my truck, one of the closest manuals I could find was in GA. My other two options at the time were in Illinois and Kentucky. Manuals are very rare here. I get that WTF look when someone realizes I went out of my way to buy a manual. lol

Yes, I agree and the good news is that the MT is a major theft deterrent. Stupid thieves can't drive them either. It has been a long time ago, but when I got my driver's license, you had to take your road test with a MT vehicle, demonstrate that you could drive it, park it, and start on a steep hill without rolling backwards.

I couldn't be more happy that I bought a manual. I start the truck up and it feels brand new every time. I really look forward to driving it because it's manual. I had two other cars that I purchased myself and the driving got old due to the fact that they were automatic.

Never thought I would use a weighted racing knob on a truck but dudeeee... thing matches the MGM paint great, makes shifts way easier. Cost is pretty high around 120-150 depending on what u get engraved but they have tons of color options and there honestly meant for other applications because they are heavily weighted. Check em out at raceseng.com ; this one is the slammer in graphite texture.

Biggest selling point is they have an aluminum adaptor that connects the shift boot to any of their knobs ( I don’t have it on here) and they are awesome. I’m sure people will hate on the high price I spent on a shift knob but it was so worth it ha

That's a really nice knob you got there. Ha!

The factory one still feels great to me. It would be fun to try a weighted one.
