What was the upgraded brakes you went with?

 

Stoptech big brake kit with the 6 piston calipers. Unfortunately though they are still in a box in the garage. I probably will have to wait till July to finally put them on.

 

I recall you mentioning that they now make a version for 16 inch rims...we may be adding a trailer to our adventure setup this month and would love to beef up the brakes on the truck as even through the trailer is light it won't have brakes. Did you go directly through Stoptech? I've had Stoptech 6 piston on another vehicle I have owned and was happy with their performance...

 

There was a group buy here on the forums a few months back when I got mine. Can't remember who put it on.

 

Interesting, I'll have to try and track down who was selling them. On Stoptech's website the only brakes they offer for the second gen Tacoma would only fit the X-Runner according to their notes so I wonder if those would work...

This build has been pretty stagnant for awhile. With the sale of PRINSU to CBI though I have slowly been getting some more time to work on my own projects. The first thing was to rework the rear suspension. I finally got everything in last night. Haven't had a chance to drive it yet but here are some pictures of the mounts all in and painted.

Custom under the bed shock hoops. Frame reinforcement plates. Air bump cans, etc. The hoops are 1.5" DOM, with 1/4" plate mounts. They bolt through the bed shelves and have a 1.75" DOM crossmember that ties the two hoops together. In the picture I have some tabs welded to the cross hoop that bolts into the front bed channel. Still deciding on whether or not I will be keeping it.

Pictures of the shocks and bumps stops are coming tonight. But right now I have 14" x 2.5" King smoothies in there with 6" up travel and 8" down travel . I am using the all pro expo extreme leafs which don't cycle the full 14" but I was able to get them to cycle 12" in the garage with the jack.

Bump stops are Fox 2.0 x 3" travel. Should be a good setup for my uses. Taking it out this weekend to do some hunting and should be able to put it through its paces.

Yep, thats the main reason this I can actually do projects like this. Nice big garage to work in.

 

You going to continue to reun the Prinsu wrap?

 

No it has already been removed. I did replace it with a solid color light grey though.

This thread hasn't had pics in awhile so here are a few from the summer.

A couple right before I sold PRINSU. I took the racks off to remove the wrap.



Then the wrap came off. Completely different looking truck. I did use a wilco hitch gate for awhile. Solid product that works really well. Drove it all through Canyonlands with no issues at all.







I liked having the wrap so much and it was good for the paint both on trails and from the terrible road salt here in Utah that we redid it using the base color from the old PRINSU wrap. Couple of pictures from FJ Summit with the wrap. I also got a new CBI Bushmaster with dual swing outs to replace my old one. It is top notch!

 

You got rid of the Dakar's?

 

Yeah, Dakar Springs hold weight as well as or better than anything out there, but I was always less than impressed with ride quality.

I currently am using All Pro Expedition springs but that whole thing has been a fiasco. They ride excellent and flex better than the dakars but immediately went flat with hardly any weight. All Pro is not really responding to my request for a warranty on them so I am looking at a custom Alcan Pack now.

 

What a nightmare. You ran the AAL with the Dakar didn't you?

OME just came out with the new Dakar that apparently is supposed to have better ride quality. I have the old ones on the truck but have the new ones sitting ready for install and trying to decide if I want to do the AAL too.

 

Yeah I had the add a leaf. All in all they are good springs. I put them through a lot of abuse and never had the squeaking problems with mine.

 

Yeah I am looking at something similar. I was excited about the all pros because I got what is called the expedition 2.0 spring which is supposed to be good up to 1000-1200 over stock but it appears that was either a lie or I got the expo 1.0 springs and now all pro doesnt want to deal with it.

 

Yeah, I guess it is my fault for wanting to give them a chance. Lesson learned. Anybody interested in a set of all pro springs that ride great but don't carry the weight I need them to?

 

Was your paint damaged at all after removing it?

 

Not the factory paint. I had spray painted the fiberglass fenders and the vinyl pulled that paint off when they removed it. I expected that to happen though due to the quality of spray paint
