Hey TW! So I have been planning to get Front and rear bumpers, a bed rack, and a roof rack next spring. I was all excited looking through and deciding what I want to get, but then I realized that I wasn't taking into consideration the weight that I would be adding to my truck! Now that I think about it, should I upgrade my suspension before I go all out on exterior accessories? If I was to upgrade my suspension, I would either go with a mid travel set up or a long travel setup(most likely mid travel).

Going with either of these setups will result in all the budgeted money that was going into the external protection going into all into the suspension.

Now this all boils down to: should I go suspension or just say screw it and go with the external protection and goodies. Would my truck be able to handle all the extra weight?

(I am currently on stock suspension with a toytec coil spacers, an added leaf, and 33 inch MTs)

Option C: I would do bumper + get rid of spacer and put on some good coilovers

Um what area do you live in and do you need the high speed element of long travel? At the same time front and rear bumpers are nice, but not essential. What sort of wheeling do you do? Do you feel limited in your driving?

I kinda just threw the long travel idea in there just have the thought, but I most likely will just end up going with mid travel suspension (2.5 king midtravel shock, deaver 10 pack, new UCAS, ect), I plan on making my tacoma into an overland expedition vehicle so it will be supporting a lot of weight (racks, roof top tent, gear, etc). I live in the southeast so I would be doing a lot of rocky uphill trails; I want the bumpers so I don't end up ripping off my bumpers or messing up my truck. Besides, it will look good as hell.

Do it once, do it right. I would start with suspension. Build your platform to support your anticipated mods. Otherwise you'll have more work in the future.

Sounds like you got a good plan, I would stick to MT. I have LT and live in the more northern east than you, but I plan to move out west in time and like the high speed driving aspect.

Def cant echo this enough...so many guys buy all the furniture that they may not use on their rides and then wait till the end to upgrade their suspension as to some its one of the more expensive parts and not as noticeable. On trail though you will enjoy every minute of it and know that it can last as well. My build has been a variety of components, but by far my suspension is the most crucial piece of the pie IMO.
