So I took my tacoma in for Bluetooth problems and they replaced my head unit, and now no sound from door speakers. They rechecked everything and no the head unit doesn't even power up. I did replace all speakers when I first got the truck, now they are telling me to take it back to the audio shop. Should they be covering the bill for this since everything but Bluetooth wasn't working?

    Let's get a timeline here;

    1)you replace stock speakers
    2)have Bluetooth issues (what exactly?)
3)takes it to dealer and they replace the head unit
4)no sound from front speakers after dealer swap
5)have dealership check why no sound, and now head unit doesn't even turn on?

    Am I getting this right?

I believe if you switched out the speakers that might “void” the warranty.. do you have any amps? If so maybe a remote wire or something else grounded out... bad connection. Could have just blew the fuse for the radio

Ok. Good to know. I would check the connections on everything... possibly once the dealership started touching everything something popped loose. But of course.... “not there fault”

Well, considering it "kinda" worked when it went in and def didn't when you left... I'd say this is a no brainer yes. Now that being said, simple things should have been done before shipping you off and honestly you shouldn't have left unless you know a couple things most dealer/mechanics are clueless to 12vt dc audio/video. Yes they work on cars but they have manuals and computers to give them steps to follow. They don't have a "specialist" in that area but more of a " go to" person. They can check connections all day long and scratch there head like an idiot but simple process of elimination. Radio powered on with old radio when you dropped off. New radio does NOT power on. Unplug new radio and plug in old radio. If old powers up then its the new radio that either isn't compatible with your truck or is defective. If no power with old then the mechanic probably blew a fuse. Then should meter power at harness at the radio to see what power wire isn't getting power. To be honest most bt problems don't require a new radio but firmware update but who knows. As for taking it back to the stereo shop. Why would they look at it for free and it's not like they are going to be able to put another factory radio in there. Their job is to replace factory with aftermarket which is not what you were wanting to do. Factory under warranty should be kept in house. This isn't rocket science on their behalf. Find another dealership then if need be. Warranty travels with the car. I guess if they want to get a bill and they pay it fine but there shouldn't be any need for you to be going anywhere else other than a dealer. Simple swap factory for factory. Like I said... most are idiots but it is what it is.

They replaced my H/U for NAV problems and never had any other issues. If speakers worked before they should still work. Speakers should have nothing to do with it not powering up. Check fuse yet?

Replacing speaker DOES NOT VOID A WARRANTY on a truck. It worked when it went in and didn't when it left. Some sort of accountability has to be held.

So if your truck came with bfg tires from the factory and you put on michellen then your warranty if voided? Ha... ummm no

Tried to get in writing that they would cover repair costs, since they told me they don't know what's wrong. And to get it checked with the audio installers, but they told me to have the installers call them after diagnosing the problem. Big hassle but I think they should have directed me to one of their say "go to guys"

If the stereo powered up before and then suddenly stopped I would check the fuse yourself. Just change it to make sure. As for no sound when the stereo came on we need More info. You installed an amp but is it multi channel for all speakers and sub or just sub?

Whether you have an amp or speakers in the vehicle there is NO WAY either of those 2 can cause a radio to not power up UNLESS the amp turn on/remote wire is tapped into the switched/ac wire behind the radio and somehow it grounded out and touched metal or ground when the truck was on. If that did happen, then there would 99.9% of the time be a blown fuse. There are multiple fuse boxes in that truck so I hold they were smart enough to test ALL fuses. Sooooo again here we are. Screw the fact that there was a problem with the nav or bt on the original radio. THE RADIO WENT IN POWERING ON AND NOW IT DOESNT!!!... accountability!!!!! I hope that they compensate you for wasting your time and being idiots.

Took it to a local audio shop, got the hu to power up, just no output to the amp, guessing service tech did not disconnect ground before installing new hu and shorted it. Going back in for service either a new oem hu or they can pay for an aftermarket one. Just need it working.

what did they do to get it to power up? as for the no sound, is the amp powering the speakers or just a subwoofer? need to look at the amp and see if its even turning on.

They just unplugged it and plugged it back in, amp turns on, but audio place said no signal/voltage coming out of hu to amp.

first thing that you could do without the dealer or stereo shop to start the troubleshooting process is
bypass the radio and use your phone as a source for music to see if you get audio. if you know that the amp is turning on and power from battery is good and ground too then take an rca to mini cable and use the phone as an audio source. if you get sound then we know that the amp power is good, amp is good and speakers are good. then at that point you know its the radio, lineout or rcas or a combination of them.

May or may not be related but I had an issue with a new head unit after it was replaced in my 2016. Basically, truck got broken into, tried to steal the radio, got spooked and ran off with it hanging out... Dealer replaced entire dash and head unit. New head unit gives me static when music playing. Turns out they ordered the wrong head unit, they make two JBL head units that look identical but have a part number like one or two digits off. After they replaced the new head unit with the correct part number head unit, everything was good to go.

good point... I mentioned this back earlier. its possible that the clowns put a different radio part number in there. simple trouble shooting for the clown should have gone like this.
    radio powers up
swap radio and now no power.
plug old radio up and it powers up
admit im over my head and step away
    edit....
plug old radio in and now no power.... look for a new profession
