Still new to tw and just came upon the hunting threads. Here's my deer from last October. I bought my Tacoma in early 2016 so this was also the first time I used it for Hunting. Loved the hunt and the truck.

Im not going to discount your experience but Im sure they dont just eat rotted food. They are opportunistic yes but they are good predators of fawns and other game. Think of it this way if you had a nice T-bone steak sitting on the table and a rotted piece of meat sitting there which would you chose? Bears are the same way, sure they will eat whatever but they prefer fresh stuff IMO.

I may have not witnessed it personally but theres a lot of videos showing black bear eating deer etc. Doesnt mean it doesnt happen, just means we arent/havent been fortunate enough to see it. They are top predators for a reason. Just do a quick google search and it comes up with a few videos in peoples back yard so Im sure its going to happen A LOT in the woods.

If you are poor or something and need to feed your family meat by all means do it. Its been that way of life and how we got to where we are today BUT just killing to kill or killing for a rack/trophy and wasting the meat or selling it burns me up! We still need conservation otherwise resources get depleted etc.

My buddy's bull, second archery hunt. Worked our ass off for this one! This is his first bull with a bow, solid 5x5. He missed a 350-360 about 3 hours earlier (Damn tree limbs!!)
Stuck him at 6:15 pm, rolled into camp at 12:30 am. Gotta love it!

Thanks! Had a blast! That was the first successful bow hunt for a bull that I have been a part of. If you have never hunted elk during the rut then you haven't hunted!

First attempt at tanning turned out pretty well. It was a learning experience. On to another just as soon as I have some time. Looking to try a bobcat sometime this fall.IMG_20171021_114244448.jpg

My brother's deer. Perfect spot and stalk. Glassed him and two of his buddies up at about 1500 yards. Watched them bed up from 600 yards. Worked our way into 400 yards and waited for about an hour until he got back up and he let the .300 eat. He was quartered away from us, hit him just behind his ribs. Ran about 40 yards.
