Horse bit my hood.

So I had to drive my truck out in a pasture full of horses yesterday to doctor mine. Its basically a pasture that people pay a lady 100 bucks a month to let their horse stay.

So while I'm doctoring, this black one spooks into my truck, denting it and busting my taillight (damage I didn't see til later). Then the thing moves to the front of my truck and digs its teeth into my hood, and leaves some nasty scratches that are threw the primer even.

The dent is a paintless dent repair, so less than $100 for that. A new taillight is not too terrible either. But to repaint my hood is $460!!

I'm trying to decide if I could (or should) find that horses owner and ask him to contribute to the damages. I have 2 witnesses that can verify which horse did it. Or should I just say I was an idiot to drive it out there and cut my losses, hoping I learn from my mistake.

I am ticked though. My truck was flawless, and in a matter of 5 minutes its beat up =(

 

Jeez what a random bummer! I really really doubt a horse's owner is responsible for their horse biting someone's truck that was driving through the pasture though. Probably gonna have to suck it up. If you shop around, i'm sure you can get it fixed for less than that.

 

Yeah, I wouldn't ask the owner for payment. It's not really their fault, its just an accident.
My step-dad's old work truck got it's hood bit by a horse as well (he's a farrier). It was just a chevy though so he never got it fixed lol.

 

man. i had no idea how much of a national epidemic horse hood-biting was....... who knew??

 

When I got the estimate today the shop owner kinda laughed when I said what happened. He said horses love paint, he has seen that alot.

Yeah, I agree I guess I should suck it up. I'm just really bummed because I love my truck and it used to look really good!! Now I can't get past the chew marks on the hood...

Mine was a week old and I am working - open range area.
New calves were testing anything as food I guess - scratches.
Fortunately buffed out.

 

HAHAHAHAHA Sorry about your truck, but this made me laugh. I would shop around too. That seems like WAY to much to paint a hood. Especially if they don't have to blend. Oh, and I wouldn't go after the owner. Not their fault in my opinion.

Note to self. Do not let truck near farm animals.

 

If you did go after the owner they'd probably just say it was your fault the horse spooked by driving in the field.

 

Oh and the side mirror also got ripped off of my old Sonoma by our horse leaning against it. I now tend to avoid parking near loose horses.

Yea my parents have horses, not exactly the smartest animal out there, horses unfortunately are not like people where they know right from wrong specially when it comes to vandalism. But thats a pretty high price for the hood, my friend had his whole ranger painted legitly and dents pulled for 1000.
