Has the OP explained why he owes so much $$ on a 2008 truck yet?

Yeah, a couple of pages back he explained that he bought it fairly recently for $15K plus some taxes/fees, and owes $14K. He mentions that in a few months he'll pay it down more and then have more equity, but the value of the truck will diminish some too. In any case, it sounds like he's at a break-even point on the '08, might (if he's lucky) get as much for the truck as he owes. So basically, he'd be financing 100% of the purchase price of the new truck, and I think he said that's around $25K.

I dunno, it totally depends on whether one can afford a payment that's about 2/3 more than he's currently paying. New vehicles generally can be financed for a lower interest rate. And if he financed it over a relatively short term, 4 years or 5 max, he'd get it paid off while it still retained a fair amount of value. I think I'd go for the new truck rather than plough another $14K plus interest into one with 100K miles on it. But that assumes, of course, that the bigger payments won't kill his budget.

Ahhh, I see. I guess I missed his post. This is kind of off topic, but it has been mentioned in this thread. People are all paranoid about the 3rd gen Tacomas, and maybe for good reason. But, since they have had these known issues and multiple recalls, wouldn't the 2017's that have been built really recently already have those issues worked out? I would think Toyota wouldn't continue producing these trucks until they fixed the issues people were having. At least that's what I hope is the case, because I just bought my '17 a month ago to the day. Mine was built in July, so I like to hope that all these issues people talk about have been addressed and worked out before mine was manufactured.

How long you had your '17? Any issues?

I just bought it in June and haven't put a whole lot of miles on it yet, but it's been great, I love it. No problems at all. I could be wrong, but I think this is going to be a great little truck.

Nice! Yeah, I hope you're right! Mine barely has over 500 miles on it still. No issues, so far I love it. I see you chose a nice color as well

Here's the "issues" I've had on my 16 (built Feb 16, 22k miles in 19 months):

Whistling LCA - fixed with TSB
R-D delay when truck is cold - fixed with TSB
Weeping diff - awaiting parts but still driveable, not on recall but being repaired via warranty.
CPS has not failed nor on recall but has been swapped with upgraded part.

No problems with the way it shifts as I use S mode if it starts toggling between 5-6, truck can't read my mind what gear I want it to be in, if in D it "assumes" I want best fuel economy depending on speed. If I'm in cruise control, it knows I want to maintain speed regardless of gear. If I don't want it to use certain gears, I take them away with S mode. I don't understand how people have a problem with the transmission if they would just use that method.

No diff whine despite weep, no floppy hood even though it's an early built OR.

None if these listed have kept me from loving the truck.

I traded my 2015 SR5 V6 for a 2017 SR 4 CYL Manual. I couldn't be happier. The only time I miss that V6 is when I'm on the interstate(which isn't often) and I have to pass someone. I set the cruise 70 mph, that 4 cylinder handles it just fine.

There have been a couple of 17s with the weeping rear end. Not sure if they were pre April recall trucks? The were fixed under warranty, so they took a fraction of the time of those of us under recall!

Mine was built in June of this year, and I haven't experienced any issues thus far. Only had it for about 1200 miles, so maybe something will crop up later on.

Keep it !! The 3gen is great. But you have a great truck also. You appear to be in pretty fair shape value to loan.
But then again if you don't mind the payments, I suspect you will be ok. Your probably going to be close on payments as you'll just be extending the loan again!
I would keep yours tho if it were me.
No I wouldn't !! Buy the new one:).
Sorry I was trying to get you to be responsible . Responsible sometimes is not exciting tho:). Go for it

Damn I hope none of this happens with mine. I'm sort of a noob I guess, so I'm not sure what R-D delay, LCA, or a weeping diff means lol. Weeping? Not sure what weeping means in respect to the differential. Also, what is TSB?
There have been 2 things that I have noticed that bother me a little bit with mine. First: the speedometer needle seems to jump or twitch a little bit. It's not horribly noticeable, but it's definitely something that a brand new truck shouldn't be doing. It happens mostly at freeway speeds and I think using cruise control makes it worse.
Also, the corners of the rear bumper. I noticed a couple weeks ago that there is a slightly noticeable difference in the size of the gaps between the plastic bumper piece and the corner of the body of the truck from driver to passenger side.

Nothing major, but a couple little annoying things.

I'd keep your second Gen if I were you. My friend has a second Gen, and has never had any issues with it. Meanwhile, I've had my third Gen into the garage 5 times for non-routine service. Some experiences may vary.
