If you guys were trying to do a 2wd overland rig, what would you do?

Bumper and a winch or rear locker?

    You'll need a locker before a bumper

Yhea I would have to agree. And you don't need an aftermarket bumper for the winch.

Nah, I agree. I just remember him saying he'd be doing mild trails, not sure a winch would be necessary. But To each their own. Every time I've had to use my locker it got me out of something. Not stuck

Yeah true true. It's in limbo currently, I'm got to drive a buddy's first gen with 33s and 4.56 gears and it felt fucking amazing. So I'm gonna save up a bit and regear both diffs that I have, then get the transmission checked out. Just gonna play catch up for now, lots of trips and traveling to see family n such. Been having too much fun hahah. It's not life or death that I get the truck converted so I'm not in a rush

I would say the cost of a bumper, winch, and locker would cost about the same as a conversion.

Yeah but with the re gearing, I can still throw the rear in and hold onto the front till I'm ready to install everything at once. At least during that interval I'll be able to get up a steep hill or get on the freeway without yelling at the truck

I'd be game to do a conversion if I knew how to wrench that well. I can do basic stuff but nothing like that.

It's pretty basic, and there are lots of helping get hands around these parts. The only part I don't want to touch is the tranny and tcase. Gonna have installed at a real shop

Not going manual trans, manual hubs and front diff with jshift transfer case. So I guess technically "some" of it is manual. Haha

the tcase is already attached to the transmission that I have. idk if it will have to be removed to be installed in the truck, not sure how that works, but either way, I don't have anything that can lift that bitch anyway. And it needs to be flushed or at lease new fluid

edit: i probably didn't specify that i bought a different auto trans with a tcase attached, i'm not using my current tranny (which I'm kinda sad about) lol

The problem for me is I will need to find a front diff with 4:56 gearing and an auto transmission that has a T-case from a 3rz. I don't know how hard that will be.

its not impossible, just gotta keep an eye out for the for sale threads and craigslist

If this helps for an idea on cost i'm in about 1160, but i have an extra part that i need to sell, so less than that really. and thats everything minus install cost....but I will be regearing so thats gonna be a fuck ton, but thats my choice, you can do the conversion with stock gear ratio

    Isn't a re-gear like 1k in itself?

Yeah, I'm looking around. Let me know if you find anything.
