Yep, and I strongly believe with the 2.7, both auto and manual would have been better off with the lower gearing. Hell, that even applies to the v6 models.

I believe the 4cyl MT comes with a tranny cooler already

    also I'll add my thoughts,
I've had my 4cyl 4x4 5MT for a year now, towed a few things, we have hills round here so I can speak to that. Driving around town, fine, no problems. You can get up and go when you want to. I really like the tranny and the gearing in the 5MT for around town. On the highway, flat/mild hills, I dont have to shift, but if it's a big one I have to drop a gear right at the base of the hill so I can maintain speed. I do find it struggles a bit on the hills. As for towing, plenty of torque for getting going, but again, a bit of a struggle going up hills, not much of a biggie, I just plan ahead, and drop down to 3rd when necessary, most of the highway speeds round here are 110km/hr ( 66mph )

    I track my fuel, and right now I average 13L/100km with city/highway driving ( roughly 18mpg )

Negative! Definitely no trans cooler on any manual transmission truck. You got a clutch not a torque converter that heats up easily when towing.

Pretty sure no manual 4 banger has a tranny cooler. From what I understand, they use gear oil for lubrication ... which doesn't heat up nearly as much as an auto. I would imagine gear oil would be pretty difficult to pump through a radiator, too.

Yes, lol because it's a gear box with a clutch (metal/ceramic plates) and no extra slush box fuel of ATF.

I tell you though towing with this thing sucks. Pretty much need 4lo (2lo would be better) at every launch ramp and that's only to get 2 seadoos out of the water. Tires are only 32" and I have 4.10 diffs with a stick shift. I need a turbo on this bitch because I'm riding the clutch way too much. Or Tundra but I love my little access cab

I've even looked into reading the temp sensors with a scangauge. Manuals don't even have temp sensors, so pretty much every sign pointing to redundancy when it comes to that.

Yeah, I tow a lot with mine and sometimes wayyy over the 3,500lbs limit. I actually retrofitted the factory V6 towing package (minus bigger alternator) and I just make sure to use quality synthetic gear oil and change it every once in a blue moon. No sweat there. My clutch is another story though. I hate everything about it. Wish it was still a mechanical clutch and a little more clamping force from the factory would have been sweet

Tracking mine too. 12.5-13 l/100km is my average

Feel the same about what you said. You have to learn how to drive it. I think people in auto and in more powerful mt engines are becoming kinda "lazy" and are getting used to the car/truck doing the work for then. Drop a gear and rev it. If it is not enough, drop another one lol. The truck will take it easily!

4lo is a must on boat ramps, but I don't really mind. It just makes the truck work better. It is not because auto trans do the work without 4lo that you don't put stress on components.

I definitely have an "extra" smaller radiator in front of my big radiator, I'll have to take the time to trace back where it goes... interesting, does the AC have a small radiator?

Yes, it's called a condenser. Keeps the freon from overheating and causing excess compressor head pressure.
