I have heard people have failed for the frame layer separation.

Hello all. Been watching this forum for many years while owning two Tacomas, and now I do have a reason to post. My previous 2004 Tacoma was pretty easy to manage through a frame recall, but I've found this current campaign which applies to my 2010 Tacoma a little more confusing because of the language in the Service Bulletin. Specifically, after getting "the postcard" in the mail a few months ago, I checked on Toyota.com/recall, and I got the following message:

It only indicates a CRC is available, however I noticed that I have at least one 10mm hole in my frame (or will soon be at least 10mm). In my opinion the frame should be replaced, but I'm worried it might not be.

My question is: If I take my Tacoma to the dealer under this Service Campaign, am I just going to get a CRC applied? Or will they offer me the frame replacement because of the holes? I don't want to get the CRC which, in my opinion, will just lock in the rust and make it worse, and end up in worse shape down the road when this expires.

Any experiences of others in a similar situation, or thoughts from knowledgable members is very much appreciated. Thanks folks.

If you have a hole of at least 10mm you will fail and the dealer will contact corporate to get approval to replace it. My approval took a day, and they wanted me to turn in my truck for safety reasons, so now i am in a toyota supplied rental truck (enterprise 2018 silverado).

Great, thanks. And just to be sure I fully understand, you had the same or very similar TSB from Toyota.com/recall as I did?

Sorry to be pedantic, but I'm trying to arm myself with as much info as I can when I walk into the dealership. I er on the side of assuming they are trying to screw me.

Dealership picture documentation is all that is needed. Collected as instructed by Toyota. Old frames just get cut up and scraped out. That’s what I was told.

I just got a call from my dealer. The frames are now back ordered. It could be as long as 45 days.

I've wondered how long it would take to get backed up. That's a bummer for future current claims and probably worse for later claims.

I got my truck back. It pulls to the right @60+mph.
They didn't charge me a dime after all. I just had to call one of the law firms handle this crap and throw multiple stinks. I should go back and have them align it again .... Knowing how they are, they would prolly try to charge me monies.
At least my skid plate bolts up.

So this may be my frame...... I was the first to come in under the warranty extension, and this is the first frame to arrive...

They have also sealed all the seams and added more stuff to the frame

My 2010 goes in tomorrow for an inspection.lt was not one of the frames that Toyota said they will cover, but the service mgr said they would take pics and send it in to Toyota just to see.l do have a considerable amount of rust in areas. One of the techs that works at the dealership is a friend,he told me where to look for the problem areas, like on the crossmember under the front seats.Next to the rectangular hole there should be rust, but none.

Guess we'll see what Toyota says

I’m in South Carolina a for the next few months. I just stopped at Toyota to see if I could make an appointment to get my frame inspected. I was told I had to drive to a cold weather state to have this done. Does anyone know if this is true cuz my frame is about to break in half

It is for all of the USA, only cold weather states get the undercoating. If you have a USA original 2005-2010 and a 10mm hole in the frame you get a new frame.

My frame took two weeks to get it, which seems to be pretty fast.

That’s what I thought. So what are my options since they sent me away.

Go back or go to another dealer. They don't want to do the work at the lower pay rate that warranty/recall labor rates pay. They have to do it, they are just trying to push you away so they can have someone else bring in their car for a higher paying repair.

I'm in central GA and dealer wasn't aware of settlement. A quick call to customer experience center cleared it up. 2000 miles on new frame and no complaints here.
