I'll take it. Are you going to the meet? Or do I have to arrange someone to pick it up?

10 works..We'll start there. With the number of smaller groups going out, wemight have to use several to keep from walking on each other. That can be settled aswe line upto leave camp.

How important are comms? I’ll just be doing the pussy trails for stock trucks but should I pick up a CB anyway? What is recommended? Brand, type, handheld or wired in system?

You will be glad you added a CB if/when you do...If for no other reason, they're entertaining with the strangers we met on the internet and meet in the woods! Somewhat helpful...It's almost critical to have lead and tail vehicles in a group to have contact with each other. I really like having access to comms on the highway. I prefer a wired in system....Decent radio, good coax, and a very good, stable, well tuned antenna. You will get 100 different opinions from every 100 drivers you poll.

I have a Cobra XLT 25, peaked and tuned to 28 watts, Road King shielded coax, Home made mount, Wilson 4" spring and a 4' Firestik antenna. Personally NOT a fan of magnetic mount antenna's, most from having to stop about 9 times an hour when I've been behind someone with one as it continuously gets swept off the roof of their trucks by tree limbs. Some hand helds work pretty well...Some don't Many report issues with reception unless hooked to an outside antenna. Some have great success,

With a $15 dollar tune up at a radio shop, my mid range priced radio now performs as well as many high end (read EXPENSIVE) radio's. While a key part of the system, antenna install and tune is the MOST important part of the plan IMHO.

Go the extra expense ($25 to $35 will get you in the game) and get an SWR meter to tune your antenna and occasionally CHECK Standing Wave Ratio...That will extend the life of the radio. (More appropriately, NOT setting SWR will SHORTEN the life of a radio.)
