My TRD OR is my first truck and coming from an Outback I'm expecting this to be somewhat less surefooted on icy and snow-packed roads (when we actually get snow that is). I've used both Blizzaks and Hakkas on my Subarus and am leaning toward the Blizzak DM-V2.

Guy at the tire shop also suggested the Cooper MS (not sure which one precisely) and they looked to have a pretty aggressive tread which might be nice when heading to the mountains, but would I regret buying them over the Blizzaks for my daily commute?

    Any thoughts?

I bought DMV2s last winter and they worked great, made a huge difference on snow and ice. I enjoyed driving to the ski hill in bad weather with the DMV2s on. I also have a Forester which would be my go to vehicle when road conditions were really bad. Now with the DMV2 tires on my Tacoma I don't hesitate to drive in any winter conditions.

If you live in an area with a good amount of snow and ice we would recommend the Blizzak DMV2 over the Cooper MS. A dedicated snow tire is designed to work better in colder climates, so you would have better traction and stopping ability.

Here is a link to the Blizzak DMV2 tires on our website:

There is currently a $50.00 mail-in rebate with the purchase of a set of 4.

Please let us know if we can be of assistance.

How much snow and ice do you get? I've found my BFG KOs did a fine job up here without going to a dedicated winter tire. I drive on snow/ice for almost half the year.

Thanks for the info. Colorado gets a mix of snow/ice and dry roads all winter. I might drive mostly on dry roads because they clear them and then the sun comes out and melts everything. But when it does snow I feel much more confident with a snow tire - especially on a non-AWD and higher center of gravity vehicle. Also, any trip into the mountains in the winter is going to be much more prone to snow/ice.

So the cooper ms tire isn't really a snow tire? I realize the perfect tire doesn't exist, but I mainly want a good and safe tire for daily winter driving that will also do fine in deeper snow in the mountains and when driving in more off road situations (not rock crawling).

After a bit more reading, I'm kind of leaning toward the Nokian R2 SUV.

The Cooper M+S is also a solid winter tire. The Bridgestone Blizzak tires have an excellent reputation when it comes to winter traction. Either tire will be a good quality safe tire for you to run in winter conditions.
