Pulled plans out of a book and lofted them, then went to town.

These from last weekend? I was in Castine and the weather was perfect for sailing.

That's awesome. I've been looking at a lot of different plans. Just not sure what direction I want to head.

We’ve done several wooden boats. Our first was a kayak that was too small for either of us, LOL. Then we did a 15’ utility with steering wheel and electric trim, that ones a hoot even with just a 25 merc on the back. Next was this one which is the best to look at for sure. There’s a stitch and glue canoe going on right now, not sure why except to try something new.

The big one starts next year, a 19’ lapstrake consoled dory...for the big lakes.

We also restored a 79 cobalt Tri hull with a straight six. The ole heifer was a bitch to plane out. Lots of junk in the trunk. Sold it off after the experience.

    Anyway, good thread.

The rest of this week and weekend are supposed to be gorgeous. The GF and I are definitely getting the keel wet this weekend.

Does she not trailer well? Or do you mean just hauling it out for the season?

Hauling for the season. I have a trailer for it but can't launch and recover it. It has a 4 foot fin keel. Draws close to 5 feet. Knights in Rockland takes it out with the travel lift so I can bring it home.IMG_0089.jpg

Gotcha. Wasn't sure if it had a swing keel or not so you could recover it yourself.

Yeah I went with the full keel so I could point better. I plan on racing her in the PHRF racing in Rockland next year.

Yeah, you can point a lot closer with a real keel. How many feet is that boat? GF and I are toying with the idea of picking up a small day sailer, but it'd have a swing keel or a centerboard so we could put it in and out of the local lakes.

It's a Catalina Capri 22 fin keel tall rig. They make a sport option with the swing keel too. It's called the Capri 22 sport. They make a wing keel also. They are great boats. I've had mine out in 30 knot gusts with 4 foot white caps. It is a beast. Loves 10-15 knots with full main and a 155 genoa with just the wife and I. With another crew member I can keep the full sail plan up to 15-20 knots. The Catalina 22 is a great trailer sailer too. Right now we are trying to decide on upgrading to a 30-38 foot sailboat or keeping this one and adding a 20-28 foot cuddy cabin for the days the wind doesn't show up, and something that is less involved for when we have "little ones", that way I can get my sailing fix and still go out with "little ones" on the power boat.

If you plan on getting a bigger boat for racing and crusing the J29 MHOB is a great bang for your buck. Still small enough that yearly Upkeep won’t be outrageous. Does well PHRF and it’s quick. It also has a real interior!

Once you go over 30’ and get an inboard upkeep gets expensive fast.

There is an Antrim 27 for sale right now I wish I could get. Fast as hell and Has a cruisable interior.

Not mine, but my dad’s. 26B99A58-B53F-4255-AE76-AB6C0DD45BE4.jpg 093584D9-C6B5-48E1-8CB9-4BF3C6CA9116.jpg The first (25ft) is kept in Virginia Beach for use in the Chesapeake Bay and a little offshore fishing but we haven’t had many chances to use it lately.
The second one (21ft) isn’t my own picture (same model but without the t-top) because I don’t have one but it’s sitting in the driveway at the moment waiting to go to the lake.

I've been looking at the J105 but the wife wants standing head room. So the front runners are a Catalina 30 to a 36 or a Beneteau 30 to 36. I will probably be keeping my 22 regardless of what route we go so I can race that and weekend the bigger boat. We have also been looking at 24-26 food cuddy cabins. Either way I'm fighting hard to keep my 22. Love sailing it and really like how cheap it is to maintain.

I spend a lot of time on a J105. They are a great boat and do very well in PHRF around here. We have won a lot of races and they are good for most distance races as well unlike my J80. Plus there are usually 4-5 of them in the bigger races around here.

Mass Maritime has a Quest 33s they will be selling/chartering to own. It rates similar to the J105 I think it’s was 96 this summer. Much better built (no balsa.) It was built to be a transatlantic single/double handed racer. 33’ long and has standing headroom.

Iv raced and skippered it a few times. It’s A great boat and planes downwind. We were doing 15+ knots with the A5 up in total comfort. It needs some TLC with the systems as the electrical system has some bad connections. But with 2 competent sailors and a bunch of people who never set foot on a boat we have been placing well with no instruments in a distance races. It’s got a water ballast system so you could cruise in heavy weather with a light crew in comfort.

It will sell for substantially less than the asking price.
