So after a long wait and trying to make our schedules work, I was able to get my cluster lights replaced with neutral white LEDs. I can’t say enough good things about Rod’s work! He also hooked me up with his soldering skills on my 12-15 HVAC conversion. For those on the fence about his work and price, I’d say “go for it!” You have a lot to lose by not doing it!

Unfortunately I don’t have the greatest quality pics or even a before/after comparison.

Not sure if this is the right thread, please let me know if not, but an issue came up that I am trying to diagnose. I did this mod this past summer, only changed the background LEDs from orange to white, left everything else alone. Yesterday morning driving to work the speedo backlight LEDs flickered and went out. Tech, temp, fuel are all fine. This morning they worked, then out again this evening. Too cold to tear the truck apart right now, but was looking for a schematic if anyone had one. The basic wiring schematic only shows the illumination 'circuit' as all together, so I'd think they all would go if that was the issue. If not, I'll have to tear it apart and look at the traces on the board to see if I can spot anything. Thanks

Each section of lights is in series with itself
Example all speedo Leds (3) for the background are in series so if one is faulty or not soldered correctly all of them will shut off or flicker
I’m sure it might just be a cold solder joint meaning it wasn’t soldered down correctly
Or if it’s the led that’s faulty just replace

    Thanks man

Thanks for the info @Jerez. When it warms up around here I’ll tear it apart and go over the joints again. Thanks again.

have a handful of these leds to mess around with, and some burnt out lights in the dash, subbed for this eventual mod.. Also, finding LEDs to be sensitive to cold weather, -20 to -40c (0F to -40F).. swapped out the map lights for LED and they just flicker a bit until the cab warms up(20 minutes usually).. not a connection issue because plug and play bulbs, but perhaps cheaper LEDs don't have the guts for northern climate.. iunno

I have all the lights but my speedo lighting up after my changeout. I have checked out my solders and even gone as far as switching out the lights again to be sure. I did everything the same on each one. The led's are all facing the right way. Could I have fried something? I've searched thru this thread but there is a LOT to look at. 2006

You sure the Leds are facing the right way?
Also that they are making contact to the from the bottom of the led to the board?

They look like the other guages that I did, and I had no issues with the others. Should I just take off all the speedo ones and redo them all? Is it possible I damaged something? The LED are facing the right way. Its the background and needle lights not working. Like I say, the other gauges came out perfect

I took them off completely, again, and they are working now. Thanks.

Finally expanding to the 3rd gens...
Same lights just different configurations between all the parts...will be slightly more expensive than the 2nd gens because of the boards being a little more a pain to remove from the housings...but I will be good

    Stay tuned

    No spoilers tho :spy:
