IMO, OP created another thread for trolling and it didn't take long for them to show up.

So if I'm understanding this thread correctly, the op is saying to ditch all of the added luxury and safety my third gen comes with and go buy a first gen since they have the same power to weight ratio?

'0.059 ft lb torque/lb' for the Gen 3. Yes, there were many that were hoping the Gen 3 would produce more torque/lb, that would have been really great if they could have accomplished that.

They got more HP but that's only because the 3.5 revs higher than the 4.0.

HP=(torquexRPM)/5250. The 3.5 would get 400hp with the same 265 torque if it revved up to 8000 rpm. Toyota's 4.6L V8 would get 374hp with 327 torque if it revved up to 6000 rpm.

Toyota apparently wants to streamline with the 3.5l engine throughout their model lines. The 3.5 is in various Lexus models, minivans, sedans, now the Tacoma, and probably the 4Runner. I think it's weak the 3.5 is the top engine in the Tacoma, top engine should be the 4.6L, 3.5 the base engine.

And put a bigger gas tank in it, 21 gallons is ridiculously small. The Colorado has a 21 gallon tank, but a Wrangler has 22.5 gallons, the shorter wheelbase 2016 4Runner has a 24 gallon tank, Gen 1 Tundra with the same wheelbase and overall length had a 26.5 gallon tank. It just seems like they shortchanged with the 2016 Tacoma, they could have done so much better.

I am getting 23 mpg on highways and 20.5 on interstates in my 4x4! Gearing is a factor in the power to weight equation, I think. I had a Dodge 1500 with a 36 gallon tank that got 11.6 mpg...believe me I am not asking for a bigger gas tank, lol.

While a weight/peak tq may be a simple metric that is acadmeically interesting, a more accurate one is to compare the area under the torque curve. Torque area under the curve easily explains why the 2nd gen is quicker than the 3rd gen despite their peak numbers being similar.
