Sucks OP, I don't think it's petty being frustrated with damage they caused on your new wheels.

With that said though, it sounds like a location specific issue. I get all my tires from discount tire (price matching, free rotation and balancing, free patching, they've even replaced a tire for free when a patch failed) and I've never had an issue with them.

Hope it works out, the multiple locations around me all have great service. I'm sure if you reach out to corporate, they'll make it right if your location isn't willing to do so.

This happened to me at Kaltire up here in Canada. They offered to repaint my rims without question. Ended up just giving me a set of new aftermarket rims.

New is new, if they damaged it they are responsible. They better either replace or fix.

Well good news, after my post about what happened on facebook - discount tire responded and said they'd have someone call me. And they did just that. Very nice gentlemen who apologized and advised he'd make sure they order me a new set of wheels from the dealer I just bought the truck from.

    "Mr. Parker,

Thank you again for speaking with me this morning. At your convenience, please send me the VIN, and I will make sure that things are handled smoothly.

    Take care!

He said on the phone, the people who acted that way definitely need better training and the appropriate response from them from the get go should have been they will replace them. All in all, bad customer service from those individuals, just glad Mark Smith was quick to contact, polite and is taking care of the situation.

Very nice outcome, OP. Its good to know that they have this type of costumer service if approached the right way. The local guys definitely should've owned up to the damage, so its good that he recognized their mistake and made it right.

Like a lot of folks, I have had wheels scratched, scraped and dinged when getting tires mounted. After having a Marchesini magnesium wheel gouged by a tire change monkey and dealing with the shit storm it took having it replaced, I bought a No Mar tire changer. Bought for motorcycles, but it handles car and truck tires too. 10 years later still haven't scratched the first wheel.

I have changed all my own m/c tires for the past 11yrs. It is easier with a wheel holder and a No-Mar tool.

I have been wanting to try car times, but balancing and TPMS have keep me away. On the bikes, I used Dynabeads and have transitioned to Slime.

I think all Discount Tire stores are different. While they are a franchise, they're only as good as the people they hire from the front desk to the guys turnin' wrenches in the bays.

I have had nothing but good experiences with Discount Tire in Clarksville, TN. Recently ordered a set of American Racing (AR172 Baja) wheels that were ordered with the wrong offset so they rubbed the brakes after installation. The guys noticed it right away, informed me of their mistake and promptly found a set of Pro Comp 69 Series with the right offset, ordered them and ate the difference in cost. They ordered them this past Tuesday, received them today (Thursday) and will mount them tomorrow (Friday).

Sorry you've had this experience with them, hope it all works out for the good.

    Later.

Had this done by the local Toyota dealership on my SCS SR8. After a week's worth of back and forth with the maintenance department manager, I had a check for the value of a new rim including shipping. Got to keep the damaged wheel as well.

My saving grace was having a photo of the rim BEFORE the work was done, taken the morning of the damage. Everyone absolutely should do this to avoid any finger pointing after the fact.

This is why I take my vehicles off-road as soon as possible after purchase, so I can get them scratched and gouged up on my own terms before a tire shop gets the chance to

Did they give you a ham?

No ham or beef, but the flat repair was free and no scratches on the wheel. For people not familiar with Les Schwab, here is some info on the Free Beef promotion.

They forgot to put my lugnut key back in the car when I got my Lexus tires done. Found out when I got a flat. Luckily I know the trick to getting them off so I wasn’t stuck, but I went back and they ordered new locking lug nuts from Lexus and replaced all of them. And didn’t scratch the rims. I’ve had good luck with them.

I’m sorry that you had a bad experience but this is related to the specific store and people you dealt with.

Discount tire is by far the best tire retailer and their customer service is the best in the business.

    Escalate the issue to corporate.
