Hey everyone, I have a 2017 Tacoma SR5 3.5L V6 with an automatic transmission and I have noticed that my truck seems to almost stall and make a sort of clunking sound when going about 6mph. It seems to happen most when I'm idling/braking at about 6mph and going over speed bumps, however those could just be coincidental. It feels like my truck pretty much lost power for a second and pressing the accelerator again jerks the truck forward a bit. I checked my truck and my VIN doesn't have any recalls on it either, is this just considered normal for this transmission or should I have my dealer check it out for a possible fix, if there even is one?

I haven't experienced this at slowing down or I dialing but when I put my truck in park I hear a loud clanking noise.
Some have had issues with the transmission lunging forward sometimes. Check to see if all your TSBs for the transmission have been completed.

Hi, my 2017 Tacoma SR 5 has 3 times now lost power when I pull from a stop sign, maybe 24 MPH, is auto, 4x4, does not clunk or die, but have to coast to side, luckily not been in traffic yet ( very dangerous). Also real bad with surging---- when slowing or stopping, push hard on breaks as surges forward. Had computer test first time= showed no readout, another app next week as has done it more. Hoping some one here knows what it is so I can have it fixed. Texas does not know. Yours is doing it about 6 MPH, mine pulling from a stop sign about 24 mph,. ( female) so really scary)

Not sure what your issue is OP, but the first thing I would do is make sure the tranny is full of fluid... This MUST be a "physical" check...not a computer diagnosis.! Second thing would to check the torque on your U bolts that hold the leaf springs on..... They should be 52 FT/LBS, I believe....

If it still does it...I'd look at taking it to the stealership..!

Not sure what you mean by "almost stalling"... but try these first..

I have the same as I come to a stop when the engine is still cold. I just ignore it cuz it stops once the engine warms up.

What you just said points to low tranny fluid.... as it warms up, it expands and the tranny works....when cold it contracts and does not work as designed...

I'd bet your tranny is low, as many of our trucks were/are...!! Mine was 1 1/2 liter low... filling it made a huge difference.

Do you need to know, or care?
Just wondering here, is either AC on or defrost? At low rpms when AC cuts in it lowers rpms and feels like it's about to stall, but then picks up rpms to prevent the stall, wondering if you are encountering this. At low rpm it feels like it's pushing you forward, which would be normal.

Has nothing to do with the speed bumps as I experienced it on flat surfaces too at the ~6mph mark. I have to try and pay attention and see if I'm braking when it happens. Noticed it mainly in my complex, which is when the engine would be cold still as well but have to pay attention and see if it happens further in the drive as well.

Sorry to rise a dead thread, but anyone with this issue came across a solution from the dealer or Toyota?
