    All,
Any experience with the source of a fuel smell around the fuel tank area of our first gen trucks? I cannot see any leaks, changed the gas cap and cannot find the source. Can it be the charcoal canister? What are the symptoms when they go bad? The wife complains when I pull it into the garage after driving for a while. It is worse with a full tank.
    Ideas?

It could be so many things, I’m getting mine smoke tested soon for the same thing, I’ve had it for a while, but now it’s getting worse and throwing a check engine light, and the code is for Evap system failure, so once I get an answer I’ll let you know what mine is, and how hard it is to fix

Also the seal on the top of gas tank where the fuel pump goes on is a known problem.

    No codes as of yet.

Looks like there are many things to check at this point.

Same issue here. For me it started over the last 6 months, I notice it the most after filling up. I don't see any leaks so I'm not too worried about it.

Sounds like that seal at the top of the gas tank could be a good contender, at least in my case.

Yeah I don’t have any liquid leaks, it I’m worried about the fumes leaking, because that could combust, which would not be cool

So my leak was the orvr valve at the top of the gas tank, it’s the valve in the line that brings fuel vapors out of the tank, an into the charcoal canister

My tank had rust pinholes at top of tank at strap area. Had gas smell for long time and had those codes. If you live where it snows...and I had 175,000 miles when this happened. There are aftermarket tanks but you will need to coat it. The Toyota tank comes with factory coating.Hope this helps.
