Yeah man, I hate the concept of paying interest on a depreciating asset. Pay that bitch off and never look back.

I'm right where you are OP. 85K on my 2009 and I could keep it for years more but I'm getting sick of it. The lack of power is starting to bother me and my family is out growing it. On family trips we are cramped. I may have to move into something with more room in it.

I had the frame replaced on mine, I really have no reason to dump it unless i really need a new "truck" at this point. Im satisfied with it as it sits currently, new lift is coming in soon and in the spring im getting a different set of wheels and tires for her then im letting it ride out unless circumstances change.
I plan to keep it as the family truck/dune cruiser as long as possible and get back to something more fun to drive on my commute/long distance drives like a new GTI or something.

Yea I’m hoping for frame replacement. It will extend my length of ownership for sure.

The old adage of 100k and it's done is long since gone. If you put a ton of highway miles on the vehicle it is actually a lot better on the engine, etc. than one same age with all city and short trip driving with a lot less mileage. As a former mechanic I would never shy away from higher mileage as long as you do your maintenance and repairs as needed and know the history. Those who like finding those vehicles with like 20 k on them and being 12 yrs old I think are a little crazy. The short trips never get the engine hot enough to burn the moisture out of the engine or exhaust etc. I have a few personal experiences with this as well with family members who gave me vehicles with almost no mileage for their age. They were a lot more trouble later down the road than vehicles I get from my uncle who puts mileage on his (and all the vehicles were well maintained).

I have put 30k+ on mine since I bought it in late Jan.

Quiet, don't ruin the secret. Just about all of our vehicles we've bought with around 100K on them and being Toyotas and Hondas that meant we got another 100K to 200K of use and let someone else eat the 50% and more depreciation. The truck I owned prior to my Taco was a 1991 that I bought in 2000 with 110K on it for $5,500. I kept it until 2015 and gave me another 187K and I sold it to a friend who is using for a daily work truck still for $3,500. Talk about low cost of ownership. Even factoring in I rebuilt an engine (which was my fault) I spent something like 4 cents per mile to own that truck including fuel and oil.

Until I can afford a new F-150 Lariat. So, a few years at least.

Like the Tacoma a lot, but I like other trucks too.

    back to bone stock.
i'll drive mine until i have to donate it.

not because i am abnormally in love with it. but because i cant stand truck payments. the guys that trade in while they still have "equity" in their rigs; i dont get it...

i prefer to pay myself first. i'm saving for my next truck..since i have zero payments.

I am the same way! I had an accord I got off my folks they bought it used with around 35k on it then I got it from them with about 150k then I sold it to a guy I worked with after it decided it wanted to be an ice skater on some black ice and I landed against a cedar fence post. I sold it to him with around 300k (still had factory clutch). He to my knowledge still has it with over 500k new clutch finally.

I hate car payments as well I have had 3 and vow to never again have another but I don't have any debt either anymore so if I can't pay cash I won't buy it. That is a very smart move to save for the next vehicle and pay cash.

There is no such thing as equity in a new automobile only collectible ones and even then it's a crap shoot. There is no way you earn equity with a vehicle as soon as you make that first payment even with a large down payment and a paid off trade in you loose money due to interest and some depreciation. If you still owe on your trade in then loan gets paid off which you paid interest on which you get a new loan and pay more interest on which means a win win for said dealer and banks because the dealer gets a nice trade in to sell at close to new price and banks keep you hooked paying interest the rest of your life.
