I know typically they are an add on to a aftermarket security system. I think the install for one will run you 450-650 ish. Ive never heard of issues with them and as far as i know a factory or dealership remote start isnt something that can be easily added now. Viper is a really well known brand that is reasonably priced and has alot of options. Hopefully that helps

No. There is a timer built in where if it doesnt start in a few seconds it stops trying to start the truck. Theres alot of nifty stuff built into one of those systems now. With mine you can remote start from your phone as well as unlock, lock, track shutdown etc. (Its 150$ a year for that service)

For that truck even if it was done at the dealer ( probably subcontracted out.... I have numerous accounts with dealerships ) it’s an aftermarket. Not much can go wrong with your truck. Just get someone that knows what they are doing and offers a warranty. Most of the time when I have to fix remote starts it’s because of installer error. Make sure they solder their connections and NOT USE T TAPS OR SCOTCH LOCKS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. You need a solid connection that will not corrode or oxidize dealing with the high current ignition wires.

    Don't worry about it.

Letting a truck run idol is damaging to an engine.

Do it the old fashioned way :)

I enjoy having my vehicle cooled/heated before I get in. Tossing kids into a 140° oven in the Arizona summer isn’t something I enjoy.

I installed an Excalibur add-on remote start. 3 clicks on the factory keyless entry remote and it starts. Never had any issues with it. Put the same one on my wife’s 4Runner. No issues there either.

Mine had a tach sensor wire that senses when the engine starts.

Toyota’s one of the easiest vehicles for them to work on. They play nice together

Assuming that you have it set up for pushing lock 3 times and then it is running and locked up. So then do you have to use the key to unlock it? I don't have remote start yet, but that's the type I am considering. I tried pushing unlock with the engine running and the key fob is disabled. I hate having extra junk on my key ring, so I have the switchblade key fob and intend to use that for remote start.

The directions say to use/connect it that way, but I opted to use the unlock trigger instead because I didn’t want to have to use the key to unlock once I got to the truck. I’m obviously within walking distance of the truck(range of the remote)and it can’t actually be driven until I put the key in so I’m not worried about theft. The engine dies if the brake is applied and the steering wheel is locked.

I'm interested in getting one. Which model did you get, and are they difficult to install?
    Thanks

I find it super annoying that they would charge for this service. It's just greedy of them.

Yea I don’t know which one is good , I just want a basic one . I’m not sure I want a alarm or anything . I just want a good distance , two way and no troubles with the starter in the truck . Viper looks good but it got a lot of bells and whistles I think
