From my experience, installing the U-Con is super easy, basically just Velcro and strapping it to a stock ECU and plugging it in. The downside is the BD flash cannot be removed, and from what other members and myself have found, you'll need to find another untouched ECU to make things right. Search back through this thread and you'll find multiple posts regarding the subject.
If I were you, I'd do the ucon (lol I did). Sell the BD for a buck fifty or so on the bay, and buy an ultraguage

As others have said, installing the UCON is easy. Installing thermostat easy. Installing cam gears is pretty easy but you HAVE to know what you are doing or you WILL ruin your valves and possibly pistons. I would definitely do it as others have suggested and get a buddy that has some engine experience to assist with cam gear install.
You can Google APR cam gear install to see the instructions.

    Thanks for the info.
Will the Ultragauge be able to see engine parameters correctly with the UCON installed, since the UCON feeds false signals back to the ECU?

Mostly. Pretty sure WRAF lambda readings will be off. Not sure what all else the UCON fakes.

    Lol .. sorry gents.
Wanted to run it under 4th gear but shop insisted 3rd gear.

    Not what I expected ..
Shop dyno'd another Tacoma prior to at 13psi which produced 345hp. They said my numbers looked right in comparison.

You are making that at ~8 psi, yes? Which mods do you have @jojotoo ?

Feel like I should've produced way more hp .. not sure what the difference would have been under 4th gear. Shop couldn't add the AFR, but it was spot on.
First 2 runs were identical .. 3rd run was 8.5 psi by creating more load.

    2.55 pulley
    AFE CAI
    7th injector
    UCON
    URD headers
    URD Y Pipe
    MK3 exhaust

Not saying this was reason.... but I'm guessing another variable to factor in is the good 'ol California octane 91 gasoline.

And I believe OP said it was in the low to mid 90s (temp) on the day he dynoed.

I bet those two factors (temp and octane) can make a difference in +/- 10-20HP

Also could the dyno be reading lower because of larger than stock tires? I think that plus a hot dyno room can make the dyno read not the most optimal numbers. I feel like with a 2.55 pulley you should be making way more than 8.5 psi, then again with all 4 cats removed I’m not 100% certain on that, I thought people on here with similar setups are seeing 10+ psi. Maybe a belt issue?

correct.. It was a hot day, Mid 90's.
also, they bench tuned a Trd re-flashed SC and ran 13 psi which produced 345hp is just as puzzling.

Tires can make a big difference because you don’t measure the resistance at any way?

So should I be putting the stock tires on the rear when I go to the dyno to see accurate results?

I'd be more concerned with only 8.5psi, I've got 2.55, no cats, and it still pins 10 on the meter without hesitation

I've hit 10.7 psi on my WOT data runs.
On your dyno, was it in 4th gear or 3rd ?
Will there be a difference ?

I've got the six speed, so I had it in 5th gear: 1 to 1
