I once saw a TE37 survive three laps of Savannah when a brake caliper bolt backed out on a Civic and began to lathe the inside of the wheel! It finished the race without being slowed and is now a show piece in a shop! Had an amazing groove in it too,

FWIW I have also seen a factory cast wheel with three punched holes in the rim as it went flat on the freeway from an 18wheeler valve stem. As the tire went down the stem was literally hold punching the cast factory wheel.
