Did you replace with an OEM starter, a rebuild or...? What kind of environment do you live in? Humid, with salty roads?

    Pretty much stock right now
Hard to beat the Nippon Denso starters for these trucks.

I would think that many rebuilds would use the Denso shell and works (there's so many of them out there on Japanese based vehicles, for the last however many years) principally because the most common failure point is the easily replaced contacts/plunger. But I've never bought one. I just fix the Densos I have.

they have to be replaced due to what? wear or ?
the starter is the second to the last end of the line electricaly speaking, the grounding of the starter is the end... anyway, it is a system and if the grounding of the motor is not very good all of the current that is flowing through the brushes has to go somewhere. Is the commutator clean and smooth? if not you are running the brushes over sandpaper everytime you use the starter. A voltage drop check on the starting system would be a good place thing to do also.
