Guys, bought my 2000 Tacoma 4 months ago and realize I have no wheel key.

How do I make sure I get the right replacement?

Go to a tire shop and have them removed. With no key there as good as trash

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
If you were to go to a Toyota dealer they should have the master key set. They could order you a key or remove it if they do

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Thieves drive a socket slightly smaller than the lug dia. over the lug and remove it with a breaker bar.

Buy 4 proper lugs before you start though, whether you use that method or pay someone else.

Years ago I would use a impact socket and beat it on a little at a time with a mallet. Use a break over bar and slowly turn by hand to break it loose. Don't remember if I used a metric or standard.

A tire shop may have one that fits, may also pull them off for free.

Thanks all....don’t really care to have them on there so will likely just remove and replace with regular.

Local Firestone says they didn’t have one to fit...but I’m sure they didn’t want to trash the lock either

There's a thought, check the bag for the spare tire tool?

check the door, glove box or center console. or where the lug wrench is...they might have left it in the lug wrench.

My truck didn't have locking lug nuts for some reason but the spare tire tools came with the lock lug nut socket zip tied to the wrench. Maybe check there?

Easy solution. Just tighten the other bolts and it’ll allow you to loosen the lock bolt by hand. I’ve done this numerous times.

It’s the dirty little secret on these wheel locks.

I've done a mod or two
The one for my Land Cruiser looks identical I can send the Toyota part number on it if it has one.

Thanks all....I was able to locate the spare tire lock in the bag. Wheel lock key not there. I'll call Toyota this morning and then if nothing else I'll try the thin wall socket idea. If I can get them off I will just replace with a regular lug nut.

    Little bit of stuff.
^^^This. Takes us 7-10 days to get them from McGard. Or, you can have them match up the key, tell you what number it is, and you can call them yourself, opt to pay a couple extra bucks in shipping and have it in a few days.
