I didn't realize the 2.7 had that much power until recently. I need to go drive an F-150.

The thing that irks me is I can go get a Tundra for under invoice with no haggling because I have a connection, and I know +/- a few hundred dollars what it'll cost me. On a Ford, I have absolutely no idea what I'd get one for. I wanted to be around $40. I'd love a Lariat, but hard to tell how low I'd get one for.

I got my XLT for $32.5, and the Lariat is only 1 step up from there. :notsure:
I very much like the Tundras, but initial cost for the equipment package I wanted (and the epic fuel mileage of the 5.7) coupled with dealer inflexibility on pricing made me run away.

As much as I'd want a Lariat, I'd ideally be looking at an XLT that's as loaded as possible, I think. MSRP is mid 40s when I spec one out how I'd want it. Lariat MSRP gets crazy once I start adding things.

I have connections at Toyota, so the guy I know there offered me like $37 right off the bat for a loaded SR5 TRD Off Road double cab. Could probably do a limited for about 40. I like the cab style and the fact that I don't have to haggle on the Tundra, but I like the better mileage and improved tech stuff on the Ford.

For how much she’s been in the dirt/mud this since May... averaging 50 dirt miles a week... I couldn’t be happier with how the engine bay looks quick degreaser and hose down then rubber conditioner. Still looks good for an 04. D5C830CC-031A-42E7-A38F-E2B5E3D131EA.jpg
Trying to keep things presentable and clean so in a few weeks when I pull everything out I don’t have to chisel grime

The XLT's are easier to find sitting in dealer's lots, too. At least, around here they are. Not as many Lariats it seems like. Mine is very nicely equipped, for what I paid for it. But the MSRP's on these trucks can be misleading; mine was over $43k if I remember correctly, and they had already marked it down considerably ($37K?)
    before the haggling even started.

Yeah, very few Lariats from what I've seen. And those they do have aren't what I'd want. It looks like 3.5 XLT supercab with the 302A and Max Tow has an MSRP of something like $47k. If I could have that truck for $37-$38, I think it'd be tough to justify a Tundra over it.

I have to travel to a Ford dealer, though. The one here I've had family work for in the past and they hated them and told me to please not buy from them. I'm still looking more at spring.

That's what I don't like about some brands. The inflated sticker price, then the rebates. It makes things difficult when you talk to customers about a Subaru. About 7 years ago, Subaru discounted all of their vehicles by about 12-15%, and got rid of rebates. That way, your sticker price is very close to the actual cost of the vehicle. A lot of people coming in expect us to take off $5,000+ on a brand new vehicle. It's tough when we don't have that much wiggle..

    Like you need a reminder...
I'm seeing a lot of dressed up XLs sitting on the lots now. The new dressed up XLs pretty much have everything that my 2013 XLT does. All of the dress and option packages get very confusing with Ford (and other manufacturers as well). I can't tell you how many trucks I see now that don't even have a receiver, let alone the brake controller and wiring. Again, one of the reasons I'm likely going to spring for a 3/4 ton for my next truck, even the base model 3/4 ton is going to have tow mirrors, a brake controller and receiver, it's ready to tow right out of the box. All of those are additional options on the new half tons that add around $1,000 to the sticker and they're tougher to find. Ever try to find an F150 with the max payload and max tow packages? The specs between the different packages is very eye opening when you start paying attention to what one XLT can legally tow and haul vs. it's twin with the max payload and towing option.

True. Mine has the towing package with the brake controller (but not the backup assist, for some reason), but it seems to be a fluke that people weren't interested in because it had sat on the lot for quite a while when I picked it up. Or that might be because it didn't have remote start or heated seats, which didn't matter to me. I would have liked the Max Payload, but mine has the FX4 offroad package instead. Although I've had a full load of rounded-over green hardwood in the back and it had zero problems with that once I added an extra 5psi to the rear tires (never even touched the bump stops between Farmington and Wales) so I'm not sure I'd ever use the extra capacity. :notsure:
