MY username is boat related. I have a 1995 Boston Whaler Montauk 17. Just brought the username with me when I established my TacomaWorld account because I am too lazy to come up with a different username.

 

Awesome! That was the only think I could figure when I saw your username. I've owned 3 Whalers over the years, but I recently stepped away from them for the first time. The 17 Montauk is really a great, versatile boat. I live in Huntingtown too. I still have a Boston Whaler sticker on my back window, but don't tell anyone I don't own a Whaler anymore.

 

Agreed! Boston Whalers can take a beating. I have never encountered a situation where I doubted the boat. However, I have encountered some really rough days on the bay where the boat could handle whatever is thrown at it, but I couldn't. I still have the original Johnson Ocean Runner 90 on it as well. I am the second owner.

 

Yeah it's great to have that piece of mind. I had a 17 Outrage. It saw many days on the bay where other 17-20 ft boats had no business being out there. Those 1990's mid HP 2 stroke Johnson's are pretty good. I've been partial to Japanese (Yamaha/Suzuki) motors, but I have a ton of experience working on other folks Johnson/Evinrude products. Haven't owned one personally though. If you ever need a boat buddy feel free to look me up on here. I always try and let someone else with a boat, at the very least, know I'm heading out on the water along with letting my friends and family know.

That truck has me thinking does anyone make a truck bed rack that fits over a truck cap? I’m thory it sounds stupid but I’d like to keep my cap so I can have dry storage but the bed rack so I could put an RTT or other stuff on top since idk the weight rating for my cap.

 

ive seen some racks that go over the besttops, the biggest thing is, do the sides of the cap hang down lower than the edge of the bed, or stop flush with the rail? if its the former, theres not gonna be a nice way to attach a rack on the outside, but you could do inside bracing instead.

 

Your cap will be fine with an RTT. Mines a regular, old cap and it supported my RTT and wife and I just fine.

Edit: but to answer your question, no, I don't think anyone makes one.

 

Bracing on the inside was originally my idea but thought an exocage look would look cooler. I’m sure with some good old redneck engineering, a case of beer and some good friends it would be cheaper to build one.
