Just got done talking with the manager of the body shop Allstate had them take it and he is 99% sure it isn't a total job. He hasn't taken a deep look but the frame from what he can see is pretty much unharmed. He says it looks way worse than it is and shouldn't be more than a week or two to get it looking right. I declined all after market parts and instructed them to only use OEM so he said that could take a little longer but I want OEM only so whatever. Maybe when they get it on a lift they will see more but he had his guys crawl under on the lot and said it looked perfect.

If there are aftermarket or used parts available and your insurance company wants to use them, there's really nothing you can do but pay the difference for oem.
    It's in your policy

Well according to the body shop I can turn down after market parts and use oem or used parts they find on a salvage lot. So I opted for the second option. He said with allstate it won't change a thing.

While I can agree with you, plastic with thin metal liners and aluminum, crumple zones are just a cost saving strategy for the builder's. If he had a "real bumper" I bet the amount of damage to his truck would of been much less. 15 mph and having 10k+ in damage is rediculous. I remember when you could have an accident at 15mph, few dents in STEEL, and drive away. Awww the days when vehicles were made with love!

but then where does the rest of the energy from the accident go? Its like f1 and indy race cars, they are designed to absorb the energy from the wreck.

Some Tundra owners really don't like us Taco's i guess

    Glad you're okay!

I see some people saying the city might be liable... but downed stop lights are to be treated as 4 way stops.

I’d make them total it out. There’s no way I’d drive that after repair. Just my opinion though.

You cannot "make" them total it, you can see if you can file a claim for diminished value and then get rid of the repaired truck.

This just in: Toyota discontinuing QuickSand paint due to the disproportionate number of reported collisions involving those trucks.

    Glad you walked away OP

I know you “cannot make them” but I’d make my best attempt to persuade. That truck will never be the same.

Eh, hate hate hate the interior. Definitely has more get up and go from a stop but I like the ride of my Offroad much more and the exterior looks are terrible compared with the Tacoma as well.

I have only had the first meeting with them about the truck. Wednesday after they pull all the damaged parts and actually put it on the lift and do some diagnostics on it I will have a better idea. But it def looks worse than it is when we were actually looking at the structural elements. i was going fairly slow and the front end did exactly what is was supposed to do. But again its still early in the process they still may total it.

The interior is so inferior to the Tacoma it is laughable. Don't even get me started on the cupholder disparity. lol

It's funny how many people on the internet who know nothing about what they are talking about have such strong opinions.
Not a total, not a lot of damage, airbags didn't deploy because they weren't supposed to.

Did you get injured due to impact with something the airbag would have prevented? Seems they are pretty well calibrated and usually won't go off if the actual physics involved weren't bad enough to need to prevent occupant impact.

This was my first accident after 14 years of driving. Hopefully the last. I know nothing really of the process with claims insurance etc. that is why I came here for help from people such as yourself.

This was a total. I won’t be surprised if OP’s is a total.
