    Interesting case in many aspects. Also that you were familiar with it and made a connection(perhaps bc he was a New Englander as you are).. Altho I was unclear on the connection reference and how to take it from you (bc there's been many Phineas's and the meaning could mean different things).. I went with positive.

    Side note: Interesting connection in case you linked, with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phinehas ~ Interesting in how The ancient biblical Phineas used a spear or javelin ( and how a spear/javelin shaped projectile was involved in Phineas Gage case you linked). Strange correlation of sorts.

    Yeah, especially back then..
    Maybe they didn't mentioned it, record/document it, or maybe I quickly read over it.. But when it mentioned the first Doc who basically bandaged him up, I didn't recall seeing where it mentioned that he or another flushed/cleansed the trauma area with anything, sounded like he just more or less bandaged him with no proper cleaning.. I'm surprised by that, that could've definitely/obviously played a big role in the flare up that he had a little later in recovery with all the infections etc..

    Not that surprising, though, considering the era. Germ Theory and sanitary practices didn't really get started until the 1870's, I think.

    Yeah could be the case. I guess you have to step outside a present era way of thinking. An accumulation of cases thru the years like his, could have all played a role in things becoming more sanitary like today etc.
