    Have the shocks......Marie sent me a pair.......after I paid her $200........:)

Local shop quoted me $240 labor to replace both the OEM factory front shocks

    Is that a fair price.....? 3 hr job ? I figure the rear ones I can do......about a 6 pk ?

If you can do the rears you can do the fronts. You might have to pay a shop around $40 to swap the coils over.

You'll need to remove the front shocks and coils. They come out as an assembly. Bring the assemblies to a workshop and let the workshop swap the coils from stock to new shocks. Reinstall your new coilovers. Big $$$ saved and you did it yourself.

Edit: Make sure you unbolt the ABS harness at the spindle or you risk damaging it. Ask how I know...

The rears are super easy (10 mins per side). I used the "Tacoma Coil Over Shock Disassembly without a Spring Compressor" video above to install the fronts - it was very easy.. took 45 minutes for the first one, about 30 mins for the second one. I did have to take it to an alignment shop afterwards ($75 or so). The 5100's are a big improvement.

Yeah, it's sketchy but those 5100s you can literally compresse the springs over the shocks using the LCA and a floor jack. I've done it before but the price quoted seems pretty fair to me especially if it includes the alignment you WILL need after

the fronts are easy to do i have done them on my truck 3 times, if you follow the second video you can take them apart easy or go to auto zone or o'rylies and rent a spring compressor i would say make sure to spray the bolts down with PB blaster a few days before you start, trust me living in Park city,ut the salt from the roads freeze's the bolts, i have had to cut them out before cause it was so bad.

    The rears are easy.

I've done the fronts between my truck and a friend's a total of 4 times. I wouldn't say they are easy. Once you know what you're doing they aren't terrible. There's no shortage of snags you can run into in this project. If you have the tools, workspace, and time it's a great project. If not, $240 isn't bad. If you get halfway into the first side and run into problems, $240 will sound like a great price.

I got a good deal on some wheels from 4WheelParts and decided to throw in some front end Bilstein 5100s. They quoted me $489 for labor which includes installing the shocks along with mounting and balancing the new tires and wheels. It might include alignment. Im not sure how the pricing breaks down but it was previously mentioned that labor for tires/wheels was $80)

So that around $400 to install a set of bilstein 5100s. Is that too expensive?

(Note: I got an 03, but posting on this thread since maybe the pricing is similar regardless of 1st/2nd gen)
