Ive read a few posts about this on the forums but none seem to really answer my question. I have a 2002 Tacoma LIMITED/TRD double cab. It has power locks and power windows. I bought it and the previous owner never said anything about a keyless remote so I’m not sure if it ever had one. There is a little red light above the dimmer knob on the dash next to the LSD button. I’m not sure if that means anything as far as an alarm system/keyless entry being installed. It seems like most people agree the 2002 had the option of keyless entry installed from the factory although some people have said they don’t. Considering it is a limited model with power locks, windows and even power lumbar adjustment in the seat, maybe it does have a keyless entry system installed. If so, it seems like I’d just need to buy a remote and program it. Now I’ve tried to get the truck into program mode to see if it will cooperate by the series of inserting and removing the key and opening and closing the door a bunch of times (not randomly, but I followed the correct instructions) and nothing happened. I’m not sure if I did it correctly or not but I believe I did so long as I was following the directions for the correct model and year. Does this mean I don’t have this option? If so, could I buy an aftermarket keyless entry/remote starter and achieve the same outcome? I’m used to opening the doors with a key but it would sure be nice to have a remote. Thanks all!

The dealer installed keyless remote and sucurity system was called VIP RS 3000 or later RS3200. That had a little red LED that says Toyota next to it.

You'd have to look around under the seats and behind and up under the dash to locate any control box. It might be an aftermarket unit. If you find one then get the model/part number off the box to find instructions online and help in ordering a remote.

Go ahead and remove the driver's side kick panel, super easy to do. And there will be the keyless entry module right there. Easiest way to tell.

Mines above the left kick panel. I don't have any little red lights to let me know, just one remote that stills work. I tried looking for a replacement fob, but no luck.20171023_202104.jpg

This is the most common know install location for the RS3200 that the 02 usually had. It's not really labeled as such but it's a black box...let me see if I can find a pic
