New guy here from Baxter Springs, I'd love to check out KS Rocks sometime. I bought my truck in Ft. Scott.

I'd have to stay on the bunny slopes though, the wife unit would kill me if I messed up my new truck.

There's a loop road that gets you around to about everything and I'll have an extra seat you can jump into.

Just found this thread. I am in Hutchinson with a stock 2017 Sport (I know...). I am interested in learning more about all this off-road stuff and what is and is not necessary. I am down for some future meetups so I can check out first hand some of the different lifts/wheels/tires that people have done.

Welcome to the addiction Geoff. As Jeffb indicated there isn't much activity in this thread for build days like there is in the St Louis group. Most of the KC area Tacoma guys hang out on a FaceBook group.

We have quite a few Tacomas, 4Runners and FJ Cruisers that are part of the Tornado Alley Cruisers. TAC is the KS/MO local chapter of the Toyota Land Cruiser Association and we typically hang out on IH8MUD here https://forum.ih8mud.com/forums/ks-mo-tornado-alley-cruisers.53/ TAC is great family based group. Next weekend we are having our big fund raiser event called the Fall Crawl w/TAC at Flat Nasty in southern Missouri. The last weekend in October we will be over at Tuttle Creek OffRoad area just north of Manhattan, KS. If you join us for any event we will help guide you along trails your rig is capable of and let you jump in extra seats to explore the more difficult trails.

Building a rig for Off Roading can mean lots of different things. Whether Overlanding, Rock Crawling or Mudding you can build a rig to handle mild to medium versions of any theme and usually be pretty capable of all but when you go down the road of handling extreme stuff in one area it usually doesn't cross to other experiences very well.

You've taken the first step to reach out to find a group. You'll find that most local Off Road groups will look beyond what kind of rig you are driving if your personality fits so don't get discouraged. When you find the right group, they will help you find the vehicle specific tech information you need.

I was having too much fun to get my phone out for pics but it was dry enough out at KS Rocks on Sat we guided even the stock all open Tacoma through a bunch of the black diamond trails without any damage.

Nice. I need someone to bug the f***ing hell out of me next time this happens. I did see this via event on the forum and FB group but I was rather unmotivated :|.

I got me a base model reg cab 4x4 rockin' dunlops, So I can't do too much right now.

BUT.. What I'd really like to do before I hit the trail is find a willing participant to let me ride along/and or get out snap photos. Especially on the tougher sections.

There will be a good sized group from TAC with all types of vehicles and plenty of empty seats for you to jump in if you want the last weekend of Oct over at Tuttle Creek. We will be camping at the Fancy Creek Campground about 4 miles North of the Off Road Area.

It's been a good 10 years since I was last at Tuttle. Very much interested in this, especially for the experience and photos, even if I do minimal offroad. Shall I follow here and IH8MUD (not a member)?

I try to keep events cross posted between the sites but there will be more information shared through IH8MUD regarding who all is attending and when the various caravans will roll out. You can read posts on IH8MUD without being a member but need to join IH8MUD to post. There is no charge to join but I think there are some restrictions on posting photos. If you donate to the upkeep of the site there are no restrictions on posting photos or links and it also blocks most ads other than the main banner which is only site approved vendors.

Hey everyone. I'm from Omaha but make my way down to Kansas often. Usually frequent Tuttle in my Jeep, but always looking to meetup with the Tacoma guys. Anyone going to KSrocks for Creepy Crawl this year? I've been before. KSrocks isn't my favorite place to wheel but it's fun for special events.

I'll be down in Arkansas for the Rendezvous in the Ozarks Overlanding event. There will be a large group from Tornado Alley Cruisers out at Tuttle Creek the following weekend.

Most are not so prejudiced about having to be a Tacoma so hanging out with blended groups and on other media. The St Louis group is a great example of a blending of Toyota 4WD vehicles.

Tornado Alley Cruisers is another example of blending multiple versions/builds of LandCruisers, 4Runners, Tacomas, 1st Gens, FJCruisers, etc. We typically hang out here https://forum.ih8mud.com/forums/ks-mo-tornado-alley-cruisers.53/ and the Kansas City Toyota group on Facebook is pretty active.

Most groups are not quite as public about Mod days as GT is with the STL group as generally the host can't find time to do their own projects if a large number of strangers show up. When you find the right group you'll hear about the Mod Days. So quit knocking the locals down and find a group you fit in with and remember honey attracts a whole lot more than vinegar.
