Fall Camp & Ride (Oct. 20-22, 2017)

Yeah, that's the Jeeper's Creepers hole. I dunno if you were with us that one time, but on a night run we were running 19 from North to South and came across a couple of Jeepers that were lost right there at the root/ledge area. We offered to lead them out so we proceeded on, bypassing that hole because it was really wet and sloppy out at the time, well, Barney decided he was gonna show the Toyotas up and go through the hole and proceeded to get buried sure as shit. I ended up pulling him out, but in the process of getting to him, I really couldn't see that well because of all the lights in my mirror and I ended up backing down what I thought was the trail but turned out to be through a bunch of bushes. That spot I backed through has now become the actual trail.

Okay, semi-honest question. I just want to know why you guys think it worked out that way.

On the trail 14 follow the leader challenge, how come it is, with all the badass 2nd and 3rd gens with lockers and 35s and all, did it come down to the two 1st Gens in the end? (With Todd, it's pretty much self-explanatory--that little truck is made of awesome--but with the OGT not so much.)

I have a theory, but I wanna hear what others think.

Purpose built rigs from seasoned off-roaders that understand and accept trail damage and broken parts. I wasn't there this time, but it's easier to go hard with a toy rather than your daily driver. If I break something and the old runner has to sit for 6 months, so be it. I have my Honda to get around town.

Driver experience and the size of the acorns between ones legs.

Me personally, I went fairly easy on my truck the entire trip. The memory of waiting til 6pm on a Sunday and paying $250+ to get towed home was still too fresh on my mind from the February trip. Side note: I think I realized why my steering kept binding on 14. There's very little clearance between my frame and the Fabtech steering column extension. I think depending on how it flexes it cause the little bolt holding them together to rub against frame. Planning on verifying that this weekend.















Also back to your question... First gen is the best gen

 

My theory is most closely related to Guy's, which is a good one, but doesn't account for everything. It explains why people like Spencer blinked, but not really why Brian, Frank, and some of the other seasoned off-roaders with very capable rigs failed out while the OGT and Eve made it to the semi-final round. Eve probably would have made it to the last round with Todd and I if she had a locker, so she finally failed out do to her truck not being as capable as the Toddler and the OGT.

I think it came down to the drivers. The last 3 of us were just plain bug-nuts crazy.
