North LA County trip ideas?

Hello all, a buddy and I want to do a 3 day weekend in December of mild off-roading, and I'm hoping for some suggestions. The areas in specific I was looking at are Carrizo Plains or the Mt. Pinos area. Both of our vehicles are pretty close to stock, and we're not looking for anything technical. Pretty scenery on forest service roads would be just fine. We'd like to combine it with camping (we have cold weather gear, and cold weather camping experience).

Based on that criteria, suggestions would be appreciated.
