Well it's about that time... the 2018 season is around the corner!

Earlier today Feld announced sweeping changes to the format of this season, should be interesting. Check it out here: http://racerxonline.com/2017/10/23/450-words-2018-supercross-changes-announced
Looks like they're going away from the Semi's again back to just 2 heat races with 9 riders advancing to the main, a slightly different points structure, amateur races, and the "Triple-Crown".

With Tomac winning outdoors, and Marvin dominating both MEC and Straight-Rhythm, it should be a good battle between those two. IMO Marvin is the man to beat at this point. I really hope Roczen is going to be able to be competitive this year. It's tough to call whether or not he's gonna be on the same level as everyone else after his major recovery. Plus we've got Broc Tickle picking up Dungey's Factory KTM ride. And of course Anderson always right there near the top... Should be an exciting season!

I am very happy they didn't do a chase format (nascar) as I had read about a bit.

I am not a fan of the triple crown idea. It works for the once a year MEC, but i dont like the broken up short races. Is there a bonus if you win all 3 races on the night?
I'm ok with no semis for the 450's, and I couldn't tell you what the point count was previously.
I like the ktm Jr's because it's cute kids on a massive track. I don't care to watch the amateurs though. They aren't good enough to be pros so why waste my time.

    My hopes for the year...
Not a fan of Marvin...mostly because he is French :oldglory:
I'm really hoping Roxcen comes back strong. I'm guessing it will really be 19' before he is truelly back to compete.
    I'll be cheering on Tomac!:broccoli::bikewheelie2:
Anderson is a great rider, but I don't see him as a true guy for the championship. He will always be a top 5 guy in my eyes.

My sleeper is Barcia if he can get on a competitive team. He has seen that if he doesn't perform that he can and will lose his ride. He has ridden as a privateer (although just the MEC) and will have a new motivation. Dame as Wilson had after signing with Husky.

I don’t like all of these changes. It really seems like they are trying to make too many gimmicky changes. I like the changes to the points system. I wish they would have left everything alone. The 450 heats and semi races made it seem like the riders needed to race hard to make the main. Now most of the top guys can just coast to the main if they aren’t in contention for a win.

^This for sure... although typically, the top guys normally make it into the main out of the heats anyway, then no one really cares about the semi's.

Is this the thread everyone is following? Season opener tonight which I'll catch up on tomorrow (work). Glad to hear they're going back to an older format for qualifying (5 races to fill a main seemed idiotic to me).

Well A1 did not disappoint! Stoked on how well Roczen did, I was fairly certain Marvin was gonna be the guy to beat. I'm not a big Tomac fan but I still felt bad for him. I don't understand how he has this horrible luck. Also pretty stoked about Barcia's ride, he's always fun to watch.

    All this is QFT.

Was really surprised how hard CWebb raced Roczen in the semi, just figured that kid would know when he was out gunned, but he didn't give a f*ck.

Awesome opener, gonna be some shake ups this year with some of the "younger" riders (Barcia, Baggett, Seely ect..).

Good opener. I enjoyed it. Barcia and KRoc's return were the highlights for me. Eli and Webb were the disappointments.

Tomac has the worst luck/ focus ever. The man was clearly in the lead and just lost focus. At first I thought his only problem was his pants, that would have been a crappy way to lose a race with a wardrobe malfunction. Hopefully his shoulder will be ready to go for next week. Love watching him race.

I think you are spot-on. It really is a focus problem. He seems to always find a way to make a mistake. I don't think he is pushing too much, when he crashes (sorta like how JS7 did) as much as he just loses focus and makes a dumb (yet critical) mistake. Similar to the year he started the Nats by dominating every moto, only to cross rut and end his season. Wish he could figure out how to prevent those types of mistakes. If so, he'd have a few titles.

Tomac races 100% better if he gets a bad holeshot. That man is a beast racing through the pack, it's almost a curse if he gets the holeshot. He is like the new bubba Stuart but he can actually race fast and not crash. It's just when he is leading there goes his focus and then boom crash.

Ya I agree. I said to my gf during the heat 'I want Eli to holeshot the main for once, even though he seems to love to charge from behind'. He got it and as we know crashed lol. But I'd love to se him get to the point that when he gets a good gate, he's as good as gone (ala RC or RV). But plenty of season left.I heard he had an MRI and everything is good, so he is ready to go for Rd 2.

What's the deal with him? Is he officially retired? Banned from motorcross? Is his brother still racing?

Bubba being retired I'm ok with. He is older, has a few titles and made a shit ton of $. His brother makes no sense to me though. He recently won the 250, and now can't get a ride, and as a privateer doesn't enter the first few races.

James teased a new ride this year (Honda) with pictures a week or two ago but haven't followed him after the last 3-4 years on non activity.

Malcolm, I personally, don't see as much talent as his brother nor is he willing to ride with Bubba "Win it or bin it" style... Not to discount his 250 title but he did run that class, jumping East to West, like 5 years or so...

    Just my take.

Malcolm has signed as a fill in rider for justin bogle. I hope he does good and turns it into a full time ride.
