Took the dog outside this morning for the second time about 8 AM with a cup of coffee. Light rain and upper 30's. He flushed a grouse 15 yards from the cabin turned around and stared at me. Gave one bark and sat down and kept staring. Opened the truck door and before I could say load up he was in. We spent the day hunting in the rain.

Rain on and off but never got below 35* today. Got in the truck when the rain and wind was too hard and would drive to another spot. Normally 4-6 (sunset) PM is considered prime time for grouse hunting. Well hunting in general. At 4 it hit me that I was wet, cold and tired and it was getting foggy. All a recipe for an accident of some type. So I headed back to the cabin, 10 years ago I would pushed through it. Maybe you do get wiser as you get older.

Nova the rockstar hero shot before we headed back to the cabin. 2 Russet phase grouse today. Cost per oz? Don't ask. Watching the dog work and get spun up, priceless.

We had frost here in WI this morning . Sun came up and I was in my tree stand and ground was frosty. Saw a doe and her 2 little ones and a small buck. At work now. Wish I would've called in sick. Got tomarrow off.

It's been an unusually warm autumn this year. A lot of 70s this october. Don't get me wrong... I like it. Would like it to cool down in November before deer season.
