Towing is a state of mind i.e. slow and steady. My 2015 DCLB tows a two horse aluminum slant load trailer regularly with no problem. Probably weighs in at around 5500 lbs. Sure, there are no mountains here, but I’m sure I could do it in the mountains just the same. I pay a lot of attention to brakes and tires on both the truck and the trailer. I’m hauling livestock that mean a lot to me and who like to move around a bit, so I need to be careful. There’s no down time with a couple of horses on board.
Let’s face it, Tacoma’s are dead dogs in terms of high performance, but they’ll work hard and do the job if slow and steady is good enough.

That's odd. My truck drags this 5k lb pig over the passes no problem. Sure, you feel it back there but I have no problem going the speed limit. You can't be afraid to make the truck work.

I had no problems other than spinning at the launch when pulling it out of the water, my 24 foot Nautic Star at roughly 3200 pounds with the 5 speed is fine, can definitely feel it. Not sure why yours would have failed. Also cool rhino, I miss mine. Sold it after the rear end blew up and had to tow it out the swamp.IMG_1936.jpg IMG_1640.jpg

It’s Simple it’s the gear ratios in the transmission rpms are either too high and it’s screaming with little to no power left in the top end or too low and no power that’s the issue,

Impressive since most of the clowns do 60 in the left lane while NOT towing.

I know its great to have it empty so i can cruise at 75 up cuesta.

Not sure if this is the heaviest I've towed but close. It did just fine, I would chalk it up to altitude more than likely. Does my taco haul like my old 7.3l ford f35 dually most certainly not but for being so small it's pretty impressive definitely better than my old blazer with a 4.3 or my ranger with a 4.0 or my s10 with the dawg 2.8.
24ft trailer, I had 4 scouts, the bed loaded with all my gear and then the trailer loaded with all the camping gear and inflatable kayaks etc. trailer weight with gear was best guess around 3500# but could of been heavier. I regularly haul the canoe trailer behind it as well as a 7x12 enclosed cargo trailer no problems.
Love the longer wheelbase for hauling it definitely helps with control, backing up, and smoother ride.

Lots of water, about 90% humidity all year, 80 degrees plus from april to october, lots of water, snakes, alligators, mosquitos, crawfish, things of that nature. Pretty much anything that lives in or around water. And about 65 inches of rain a year.

I've had zero problems towing a 2,500 lb + camper with my taco. Not sure what you are doing wrong there.
